Abstract: An illumination device includes a light converter that primary light enters and that is configured to convert at least part of the primary light into secondary light having a second wavelength that differs from a first wavelength of the primary light and to diffuse the secondary light, a first reflector configured to reflect at least part of the diffused secondary light toward the light converter, and a holder holding at least one of the first reflector and the light converter. The first reflector and the light converter are separated from each other so that the primary light transmitted through the first reflector enters the light converter.

Abstract: An optical connector includes a first engaging member holding at least one first optical fiber to guide light from a light source, a second engaging member holding a second optical fiber to be optically connected to the first optical fiber, and configured to be engaged with the first engaging member, and a light shield member provided near an emission end of the first optical fiber, at such a position as to shield light from the first optical fiber at disengagement of the engaging members. The light shield member is pushed by the second engaging member at engagement of the engaging members, so as to be folded and evacuated in a gap. The light shield member includes a light absorption member to absorb light and to generate heat, a thermal diffusion member to diffuse and radiate the heat, and a base supporting the light absorption member and thermal diffusion member.

Abstract: The disclosed technology is directed to a fixing unit of a light guide member. The fixing unit is attaching the light guide member to a protective member that protects outer circumference of the light guide member that guides primary light and a holding member. The fixing unit comprises a defining member forming a spatial region in which the protective member and the holding member are encapsulated separately from one another in a longitudinal axis direction of the fixing unit. An adhesive that is applied in the spatial region to bond at least part of the protective member and at least part of the holding member to the defining member. The defining member includes a specific region that defines a bonding range of the adhesive in the spatial region in at least one of a longitudinal axis direction and a radial direction of the defining member.

The failure-cause detecting circuit includes a cause predicting circuit configured to detect a second pre-failure state in which it is predicted that the endoscope reaches a first pre-failure state that directly causes the failure of the endoscope. The light source controller controls the output of the light source based on a detection result of the cause predicting circuit.
