摘要: A mirror assembly in which the mirror housing and multi-function backing plate provide various useful functions. The multi-function backing plate supports not only a conventional reflective element but also supports a wide angle reflective element. The wide angle reflective element may be adjustable. The multi-function backing plate supports an indicator light assembly so that the mirror assembly can provide an indicator light function. The multi-function backing plate also support a recessible spot or approach lamp which, when the mirror is in an operative position, is recessed within the housing. When the mirror is in an inoperative state, the multi-function backing plate can be rotated so as to expose the spot or approach light. Various light pipe configurations enable transmission of light projected from a light source mounted to and behind the multi-function backing plate to project light through the light pipe externally to the mirror housing to provide an indicator light function.

摘要: A side rear view mirror assembly is used in conjunction with a motor vehicle equipped with a blind spot sensor designed to detect objects in blind spots of the motor vehicle. The side rear view mirror assembly includes a base fixedly secured to the motor vehicle. A mirror case is movably secured to the base. The mirror case defines a housing and a mirror opening facing rearward. A backing light is operatively connected to the mirror case facing rearward. The backing plate is movable with respect to the mirror case. A mirror glass is fixedly secured to the backing plate and movable therewith in a manner allowing an operator of the motor vehicle to view rearward of the motor vehicle. The side rear view mirror assembly also includes a blind spot indicator fixedly secured to the backing plate and in communication with the blind spot sensor to receive signals from the blind spot sensor and to indicate to the operator of the motor vehicle when an object is in a blind spot of the motor vehicle. The blind spot indicator is directed at the operator when the operator moves the backing plate to adjust the mirror glass.

摘要: An exterior rearview mirror assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed having a bracket which is fixedly secured to the motor vehicle. A mirror casing is secured to the bracket. The mirror casing defines a primary opening. A primary mirror is disposed within the primary opening and provides a view rearward of the motor vehicle through a primary field of view. A spotting mirror is disposed adjacent the primary mirror. The spotting mirror is defined by a single radius of curvature differing from the primary mirror such that the spotting mirror provides a secondary field of view rearward of the motor vehicle.

摘要: An exterior rearview mirror assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed having a primary mirror and a spotting mirror. Both the primary mirror and the spotting mirror are secured to the same single mirror support, or backing plate. The spotting mirror is snap fit to the backing plate by having a monolithic structure which is receivable by a recess or hole in the backing plate. The recess acts as a securing device by receiving an abutment surface extending outwardly away from the monolithic structure which snaps over the backing plate and prevents the spotting mirror from moving away from the backing plate.

An arm is pivotally secured to the mounting bracket. The arm defines an elongated channel having an upper arm surface, a lower arm surface, and an intermediate arm surface disposed between the upper and lower arm surfaces. A case frame extends between a bracket and a distal end. The case frame defines an elongated channel for receiving the elongated channel therein. A mirror is movaably secured to the distal end of the case frame to provide a view rearward of the motor vehicle.

摘要: A mirror assembly has a pair of telescoping tubular supports extending between a support base and a mirror head to provide adjustment of the mirror head toward and away from the support base. Friction shoes within the tubular supports releasably hold such supports against unintentional telescoping movement. Cooperating stops on the telescoping supports limit outward movement of the mirror head and prevent complete separation of the telescoping supports. The tubular supports are hingedly attached to the support base for rotation about a vertical axis, and cooperating detents and spring elements on the supports and support base releasably hold the supports against rotation.
