Abstract: A rear view mirror assembly includes a rear view mirror that is mounted on a windshield of a vehicle and a personal electronic device in remote communication with an extrinsic communication network for sending and receiving text messages. A display is movably integrated into the rear view mirror such that the display is visible to the driver. A communication unit is integrated into the rear view mirror and the communication unit is in communication with the display. The communication unit is in remote communication with the personal electronic device thereby facilitating the display to display text messages received from the personal electronic device. In this way the display facilitates the driver to read the text messages without requiring the driver to look away from the road upon which the vehicle is traveling.

Abstract: A vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror reflective element assembly. The mirror reflective element assembly includes a main reflective element backing plate and a main reflective element. The main reflective element includes a glass substrate having a mirror reflector coated at a surface thereof. The mirror reflector-coated glass substrate of the main reflective element is attached at the main reflective element backing plate. The mirror reflective element assembly includes an auxiliary reflective element backing plate and an auxiliary wide angle reflective element. The auxiliary wide angle reflective element is positioned on the auxiliary reflective element backing plate. The auxiliary reflective element backing plate is attached to the main reflective element backing plate via an attachment mechanism.

Abstract: The automobile proximity sensor and warning display is mounted on an outside rear view mirror of a vehicle. A flat base plate, adhered to the outside mirror, coacts with a removable body on a front side of the base. The battery powered system includes a proximity detector, responsive to approaching vehicles, generating an alarm signal sent to a lighted display. The body may have a removable mirror. The body may be coupled to the base by complementary coupling sub-systems or an insertable body portion coacting with a shelf on the base wherein a depressible tab is sized to fit within a shelf orifice. As a power saver, an accelerometer detects motion and a timeout circuit turns OFF system power when no motion is detected for a predetermined period of time.

Abstract: A cabin monitoring system for a vehicle includes a video display screen disposed in a cabin of the vehicle so as to be viewable by a driver of the vehicle. A camera assembly is disposed at a ceiling of the cabin of the vehicle and includes a camera having an imager and a lens, with the camera having a field of view that encompasses a rear seat area of the vehicle. An illumination device is operable to illuminate the rear seat area encompassed by the field of view of the camera. The illumination device, when operated, illuminates the rear seat area and the camera captures image data representative of the illuminated rear seat area. The image data captured by the camera is provided to the video display screen for displaying video images for viewing by the driver of the vehicle.

Abstract: Various expandable mirrors and a vehicle having the same are described. An expandable mirror may include a first pane having a first reflective surface and a second pane having a second reflective surface. The expandable mirror may also include a mechanism connected with each of the first and second panes. The mechanism may be actuated to expand a viewing area of the mirror such that the expanded viewing area includes both the first and second reflective surfaces. The expandable mirror may also include a third pane having a third reflective surface that contributes to the viewing area when the mirror is expanded. The expandable mirror may also include a manual button configured to actuate or de-actuate the mechanism when pressed. The expandable mirror may also include a positioning motor configured to adjust the orientation of the viewing area of the mirror.

Abstract: A mirror reflective element sub-assembly for a vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror reflective element, a heater pad and a mirror back plate. The heater pad is adhered to the reflective element with a light-transmitting aperture of the heater pad generally juxtaposed with a light transmitting aperture of a metallic mirror reflector of the reflective element. The heater pad is adhered to the mirror back plate with the light-transmitting portion of the heater pad generally juxtaposed with an aperture of the mirror back plate. A blind spot indicator has a light source disposed at a first end of a generally elongated passageway, with a second end of the generally elongated passageway passing through the aperture of the mirror back plate to attach at the rear of the reflective element. The blind spot indicator is associated with a blind spot detection system of the vehicle.

Abstract: An exterior mirror system for a vehicle includes exterior rearview mirror assemblies mounted at respective sides of the vehicle. The mirror assemblies include a light module and a camera. The cameras are part of a multi-camera vision system that includes a display device that is operable to display images for viewing by the vehicle driver. The indicator of the light module includes a signal light that is configured to provide light that is observable to another driver of another vehicle who is (i) approaching the vehicle from its rear and/or (ii) overtaking the vehicle in the side lane adjacent to the side of the vehicle at which mirror assembly is mounted. Actuation of the signal light provides (i) light forwardly of the vehicle so that drivers of other vehicles approaching the vehicle may observe the actuated signal light and/or (ii) light laterally with respect to the vehicle.
