    摘要: An electrical contractor device (80) for controlling the flow of electrical power from a source of electrical power to an electrical device according to a command signal from a controller utilizing a rotary disc assembly (90) rotated by an actuator (169) where the rotary disc assembly (90) is comprised of a rotary disc (100) supporting a disc conductor (102) having a pair of contact pads (106, 108) joined by a pair of conductor legs (109, 113) and a center section (111) where the conductor legs (109, 113) are parallel and offset one from the other straddling an axis of rotation (103) where high flow of electrical current through the disc conductor (102) generates an electro-magnetic torque in the rotary disc assembly (90). The disc contacts (106, 108) make electrical contact with a corresponding number of stationary contacts (110,112) of a "turn back" design one of which is connected one to a source of electrical power and the second to the device whose operation is to be controlled were as the rotary disc (100) is rotated by the actuator means (169), the disc contacts (106, 108) make electrical connection with the stationary contacts (110, 112) and when the actuator (169) is not energized a return spring (176) causes the rotary disc (100) to rotate in an opposite direction thereby causing the stationary contacts (110, 112) to be forced away from the rotary disc (100) by a separation ramp (140, 142). A disc conductor (102) is formed to induce a rotary torque in the rotary disc (100) when an abnormally high electrical current is conducted thereby breaking the conduction path by rotating the rotary disc (100) in conjunction with the return spring (176) to overcome the spring (180) connecting actuator (169) and open the contactor device (80).

    摘要: Direct current switching apparatus having two arc extinguishing chambers each comprising a pair of spaced conductors providing cooperable arc runners divergent toward a row of non-ferromagnetic splitter plates and a stationary contact conductively mounted on one conductor, the stationary contacts of respective chambers being mounted on respectively opposite conductors, corresponding conductors in respective chambers being conductively connected to each other and to power terminals of the apparatus, permanent magnets applying a magnetic field across the respective chamber for moving an arc within the chamber, ferromagnetic plates providing flux return paths to optimize and maximize the magnetic field, a movable contact extending into each chamber bridging the stationary contacts and movable to separate from the stationary contacts, drawing an arc therebetween in each chamber, the arc in one chamber bridging the pair of conductors within that chamber establishing a circuit comprising the arc between the conductors and the power terminals in shunt of the movable contact, thereby eliminating the arc in the other chamber, the bridging arc being extinguished in the splitter plates, interrupting the circuit. The magnetic fields are applied in opposite directions in the respective chambers for non-polarized operability of the apparatus and are distorted within the splitter plate area to drive and maintain an arc at a stable arc position against a thickened sidewall portion to withstand erosion.

    摘要: Direct current switching apparatus having front and rear arc extinguishing chambers substantially coextensive, the rear chamber being separated into two laterally spaced arc extinguishing chambers, each arc extinguishing chamber comprising rows of non-magnetic parallel splitter plates, a pair of spaced conductors each having a stationary contact element spanning both the front and rear arc extinguishing chambers, power supply terminals connected to the respective spaced conductors, magnetic plates disposed in front of the front chamber and in back of the back chamber having magnetic means providing a magnetic path externally around the chambers, permanent magnets magnetically coupled to at least one of the magnetic plates providing a magnetic field across the respective chambers, a movable contact movable normal to a front to rear direction into and out of bridging engagement with the stationary contacts, and an electromagnetic drive motor disposed coextensive with said arc extinguishing chambers coupled at a lower end to the movable contact. Bifurcated arc runners of the conductors lead from the stationary contact elements into respective front and rear chambers, and a conductor surrounds the laterally spaced arc extinguishing chambers to cooperate with the respective arc runners therein. Arcs established between the stationary and movable contact elements are moved from the contacts into either the front or rear chambers by the magneteic field according to polarity of the power applied to the respective terminals. The electromagnetic motor is readily and inexpensively manufacatured and assembled by utilizing molded housing parts to position and retain elements of the motor. The apparatus is particularly well suited for high voltage, high current applications requiring lightweight, compact apparatus.

    摘要: A contactor for switching electric current has a stationary contact and a movable contact which when driven by a solenoid moves into and away from abutment with the stationary contact. An arc extinguishing chamber is adjacent to the movable and stationary contacts and includes two rows of splitter plates with a gap therebetween. Each row comprises alternating splitter plates of first and second types. The first type of splitter plate has a first member of non-magnetic material with an aperture within which a permanent magnet is received and a second member of a magnetic material abutting the first member remote from the gap. An outer casing of a non-ferrous, electrically conductive material extends at least partially around the first and second members. The second type of splitter plates are formed of non-ferrous, electrically conductive material. The magnets produce a magnetic field around each of the first type of splitter plates which causes the electric arc to move about the surface of the outer casing.

Arcs established between the stationary and movable contact elements are moved from the contacts into either arc extinguishing chamber by the magnetic field coacting with current in the arc to generate forces which move the arc.

    摘要: An electric motor control apparatus includes an electrical current control apparatus which is operable to limit current to an electric motor. When the electric motor is a three-phase motor, three current limiting switch assemblies are provided in the electric current control apparatus. A single stack of laminations concentrates magnetic fields emanating from conductors in all three current limiting switch assemblies. Each of the current limiting switch assemblies includes two movable contacts which are mounted on contact arms. The contact arms are movable in slots in the stack of laminations. A first series of splitter plates is disposed in an array along a path of movement of the contact on the first movable contact arm and a second series of splitter plates is disposed along a path of movement of the contact on the second contact arm for each of the current limiting switch assemblies. A short circuit splitter plate conducts electrical current between the two series of splitter plates. A bypass splitter plate is connected in a bypass circuit which conducts excessive current around a motor starter to protect the motor starter.

A magnet is rotatably mounted adjacent to the stationary contact within a self magnetic field produced by the flow of electric current in the stationary contact. The magnet rotates so that its magnetic field extends around the stationary contact in the same direction as the self magnetic field. When an arc forms between the stationary and movable contacts, interaction with the self magnetic field and the magnetic field drives the arc toward an adjacent extinguishing chamber.

    摘要: The auxiliary switch includes a non-contact sensor, such as a Hall effect device, that is switched by the condition of a magnetic field. The magnetic field condition is effected by a movable contact indicator that moves between open and closed positions with the separable contacts of the electric power apparatus. A magnet may be attached to the movable contact indicator, or the movable contact indicator can be magnetized to form the magnet. Alternatively, the moving contact indicator can intercept or not intercept a magnetic field produced by a fixed magnet spaced from the sensor. The Hall effect device may be mounted on the outside of the nonmagnetically permeable housing of the electric power apparatus, or inside if there is sufficient room. In either case, no mechanical coupling is required for the sensor.
