摘要: It has been discovered that when polyalkylene oxide compounds or block polymeric or block oligomeric surface active compounds comprising at least a polyoxypropylene (POP) block and a polyoxyethylene (POE) block are added to conventional dispersions of yellow couplers (that is dispersions in which the dispersed particles have a particle size of 0.1 to 0.6 .mu.m), such dispersions in a coated silver halide photographic element produce substantially higher dye yield compared to the conventional dispersion without any additive. Further, the yellow dye formed from such dispersions containing the addenda of this invention are substantially more light stable compared to dispersions that does not contain such addenda. The invention is carried out just by adding required amounts of the said polyoxyethylene (POE)--polyoxypropylene (POP) compound to a preformed milled coupler dispersion prior to coating the photographic element.

摘要: This invention describes a process of coprecipitating a photographic material such as a dye-forming coupler inside a base ionizable polymeric particle. Preparation of such a dispersion is performed by providing a first flow comprising a solution of a surfactant in water containing a polymer ionizable by base, providing a second flow comprising a water miscible solvent, base, water, and the photographic material, then mixing the said first and said second flow and immediately neutralizing the mixed flow to precipitate the photographic material inside the polymer particles forming a fine particle colloidal dispersion of the photographic material. The polymer dispersions of the invention are characterized by high photographic activity and high dye-stability in some cases.

摘要: Various embodiments of optical fiber designs and fabrication processes for ultra small core fibers (USCF) are disclosed. In some embodiments, the USCF includes a core that is at least partially surrounded by a region comprising first features. The USCF further includes a second region at least partially surrounding the first region. The second region includes second features. In an embodiment, the first features are smaller than the second features, and the second features have a filling fraction greater than about 90 percent. The first features and/or the second features may include air holes. Embodiments of the USCF may provide dispersion tailoring. Embodiments of the USCF may be used with nonlinear optical devices configured to provide, for example, a frequency comb or a supercontinuum.

摘要: This invention provides methods and processes to attach or bond hydrogels to suitable surfaces using irradiation techniques and also provides methods and processes to create crosslinked regions in hydrogel articles using these irradiation techniques. Specifically, lasers at wavelengths tuned to the irradiation absorption bands of hydroxyl groups, carboxylic acid groups or water may be used to attach or bond hydrogels to surfaces such as soft tissue and hydrogel surfaces or to crosslink regions in hydrogel articles.
