Abstract: An unmanned aerial vehicle for mounting a clamp to a line includes a body, a first propeller attached to the body, a second propeller attached to the body, and a third propeller attached to the body. The body is between at least one of the first propeller and the second propeller, the first propeller and the third propeller, or the second propeller and the third propeller. A guide is attached to the body and is configured to support the clamp for mounting to the line by flying the unmanned aerial vehicle toward the line. The guide is configured to support the clamp such that an imaginary clamp line between a first jaw of the clamp and a second jaw of the clamp when the clamp is in an arrested position is non-parallel to a plane intersecting the first propeller, the second propeller, and the third propeller.

Abstract: Fiber-optic equipment is often deployed in various locations, and performance of fiber-optic transmissions may be monitored as a gauge of equipment status to prevent costly and inconvenient communication outages. Events that damage equipment that eventually result in outage and may be desirable to address proactively, but the occurrence of such events may be difficult to detect only through equipment performance. Presented herein are techniques for monitoring and maintaining fiber-optic equipment performance via enclosure sensors that measure physical properties within a fiber-optic equipment enclosure, such as temperature, pressure, light, motion, vibration, and moisture, which are often diagnostic and predictive of causes of eventual communication outages, such as temperature-induced cable loss (TICL), incomplete flash-testing during installation, exposure to hazardous environmental conditions, and tampering. An enclosure sensor package transmits the physical measurements to a monitoring station, and automatic determination of enclosure-related events may enable triaging and transmission of repair alerts to maintenance personnel.

Abstract: A cable enclosure includes a housing defining an opening through which an interior of the housing is accessible. An end plate is releasably secured to the housing to cover the opening such that the interior of the housing is not accessible. The end plate includes a first conductive leg in electrical communication with a first cable within the housing. The end plate also includes a second conductive leg in electrical communication with a second cable within the housing. The end plate further includes a conductive member movable between a first position and a second position. When in the first position, the conductive member is in contact with the first conductive leg and the second conductive leg. When in the second position, the conductive member is not in contact with at least one of the first conductive leg or the second conductive leg.
