The apparatus may include a set of power detectors configured to generate a set of analog signals related to a set of output signal power levels of a set of transmit chains of a transmitter, respectively; an analog summer; a set of switching devices configured to send a selected one or more of the set of analog signals to the analog summer, and substantially isolated unselected one or more of the set of power detectors from the analog summer, wherein the analog summer is configured to generate a cumulative analog signal based on a sum of the selected one or more of the set of analog signals; an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) configured to generate a digital signal based on the cumulative analog signal; and a controller configured to control the set of switching devices.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for an asymmetrical quadrature hybrid coupler. In an example aspect, an apparatus comprises a quadrature hybrid coupler. The quadrature hybrid coupler comprises a shared port, a through port, a coupled port, and an isolated port. The quadrature hybrid coupler also comprises at least one transformer, which comprises a first inductor and a second inductor. The first inductor is connected between the shared port and the coupled port. The second inductor is connected between the isolated port and the through port. The second inductor is directly connected to the isolated port. An inductance of the first inductor is different from an inductance of the second inductor.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for oscillator leakage calibration. In example aspects, the apparatus includes a mixer circuit and calibration circuitry. The mixer circuit has a first stage including at least one transistor coupled between a mixer input and a mixer output and a second stage including one or more transistors coupled between the at least one transistor and the mixer output. The mixer circuit also has tuning circuitry coupled to the at least one transistor. The calibration circuitry includes at least one resistor coupled between a power distribution node and at least one mixer node, with the at least one mixer node coupled between the at least one transistor and the one or more transistors, and at least one switch coupled between the power distribution node and the at least one mixer node. The calibration circuitry also includes controller circuitry coupled between the mixer node and the tuning circuitry.

Abstract: A peak detector for a power amplifier is provided that includes a threshold voltage detector configured to pulse a detection current in response to an amplified output signal from the amplifier exceeding a peak threshold. A plurality of such peak detectors may be integrated with a corresponding plurality of power amplifiers in a transmitter. Should any peak detector assert an alarm signal or more than a threshold number of alarm signals during a given period, a controller reduces a gain for the plurality of power amplifiers.

Abstract: In certain aspects, a method is provided for measuring power using a resistive element coupled between a power amplifier and an antenna. The method includes squaring a voltage from a first terminal of the resistive element to obtain a first signal, squaring a voltage from a second terminal of the resistive element to obtain a second signal, and generating a measurement signal based on a difference between the first signal and the second signal. In some implementations, the resistive element is implemented with a power switch.

Abstract: A system for power amplifier control includes a processor, a memory in communication with the processor, wherein the processor and the memory are configured to simultaneously provide input signal strength of each of a plurality of power amplifiers in a millimeter wave (mmW) phased array system, determine an average input signal strength of the plurality of power amplifiers based on the provided input signal strengths using an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), determine a voltage headroom for the plurality of power amplifiers based on the determined average input signal strength, estimate a power backoff value based on the voltage headroom, and determine a gain control value based on the estimated power backoff value.
