Abstract: Disclosed are methods and systems for providing control over a port, such as a port utilizing the User Datagram Protocol, for example, in a mobile device. In a particular implementation, a mobile device user may select to close or otherwise restrict access to the port, which may thus prevent a user external to the cellular communications network from obtaining the user's present location and/or from hindering operations of the mobile device. Upon detection of an event, the port may be reopened, which may thereby permit a cellular communications network to determine an estimate of the mobile device user's location responsive to, for example, the user placing an E911 emergency call.

Abstract: A mobile station that is wirelessly linked to a wearable device, receives a request to initiate a location session from the wearable device, e.g., which may be in the form of an emergency call. The mobile station determines whether the location of the mobile station may be used as a location of the wearable device, e.g., by determining if the wearable device is proximate to the mobile station. For example, the mobile station may check to see if the mobile station is wirelessly linked to a wearable device through a wireless personal area network (WPAN). The mobile station initiates the location session for the wearable device with a location server. If the location of the mobile station may not be used as a location of the wearable device, the location session for the wearable device does not use position information obtained from the mobile station.

Abstract: A mobile device is capable of enabling one or more location data sources for location determination of the mobile device. The mobile device may receive a request for an emergency location session, e.g., by a user dialing E911 or from an external client. At least one location data source in the mobile device is determined to be disabled. For example, the location data sources may be a WLAN transceiver or a WPAN transceiver, as well as camera sensors and environmental sensors. The disabled location data source (s) is enabled and location data is obtained from the enabled location data source(s). The location data may be provided, e.g., to a location server. The status of the location data source (s) may be restored, e.g., disabled, after the location data is obtained or after the emergency location session is completed.
