摘要: Apparatus, systems and methods for ultrasound and photoacoustic guidance of coronary procedures are disclosed herein. Certain embodiments include a first catheter comprising an ultrasound transceiver, and a second catheter comprising a proximal end and a distal end, with a photoacoustic excitation light transmitter positioned at the distal end of the second catheter. The photoacoustic excitation light transmitter can be configured to emit excitation light in a conical pattern and at a specific pulse duration. The second catheter can be configured to detect photoacoustic signals resulting from the absorption of excitation light emitted by the photoacoustic excitation light transmitter.

In particular embodiments, the optical fiber comprises a polymer or glass optical core, a cladding surrounding the polymer or glass optical core. The optical fiber can comprise one or more emission elements configured to emit electromagnetic energy from the laser light source. The electromagnetic energy can be transmitted through a fluid in the expandable member to fracture the calcium.
