    摘要: A method is provided to indicate improper fuel filling in a vehicle. An indicator is actuated if a proportion of alcohol in the fuel is outside a range of expected proportions. In some examples, the range corresponds to a non-flex fuel vehicle recommended range, or to a normal range for a low alcohol-content fuel, which may be between 0 and 15 percent alcohol by volume. The indicator may include a diagnostic code or a dash light. Further, the indicator may be actuated in combination with a mitigating action, which may involve adjustment of a fuel injector pulse width or an ignition spark timing, as examples.

    摘要: Evaporative emissions management for a vehicle having a fuel tank and a low-vacuum internal combustion engine, including hybrid electric vehicles, include first and second canisters with the second canister disposed between the first canister and atmosphere. A refueling valve routes fuel vapors from the fuel storage tank through the first canister, and to the second canister when the first canister becomes saturated, during refueling. Other than during refueling, the refueling valve is closed to route fuel vapors around the first canister and directly into the second canister. First and second purge valves are controlled during canister regeneration or purging so air from atmosphere is routed primarily through the second canister to the engine to purge the second canister before the purge valves are operated to route air from atmosphere through both the second and first canisters to purge the first canister.

    摘要: A method of controlling an engine 12 during engine shutdown to reduce evaporative emissions is provided. The method includes a step 50 of shutting off a fuel pump 28 of the engine 12. The method also includes a step 52 of burning off the fuel from a fuel rail 24 in a cylinder 18 of the engine 12 after the fuel pump 28 is shut off. During the burning off of the fuel, a duty cycle of each fuel injector 22of engine 12 is controlled to allow the engine 12 to operate generally cyclically about a predetermined air/fuel ratio. The predetermined air/fuel ratio is preferably stoichiometric. By burning off the fuel in the fuel rail 24 after the fuel pump 28 is shut off, the fuel pressure in the fuel rail 24 is reduced. The reduced fuel pressure in the fuel rail 24results in reduced evaporative emissions from the engine 12.
