摘要: A method and apparatus are provided for efficiently obtaining navigational position of a sensor array based on a correlation between images captured by the sensor array at successive points in time. This is achieved by first acquiring a reference frame through said sensor array, successively acquiring a sample frame through said sensor array. Correlation data representing a relationship between the sample frame and the reference frame is then generated and a displacement of a reference feature contained in both the reference frame and the sample frame is determined based on the correlation data. The correlation surface of the correlation data is modeled as a general two-dimensional Taylor series expansion. The method and apparatus of the present invention can be advantageously employed in a scanning device to provide efficient scheme for obtaining navigational information based on a comparison of image frames captured by a sensor array of the scanning device at successive points in time.

摘要: A hole-punching process for a sheet-wise booklet maker, including a hole punching device, a clamp, and a drive system. While a folded booklet sheet is being held stationary on its leading side, the drive system advances the trailing side of the folded sheet, thereby forcing the folded edge of the sheet into a hole punching device. The operation of the drive system is based on sheet information associated with the folded sheet, which includes information such as the order number of the folded sheet within the to-be-assembled booklet and the accumulated thickness of other sheets to be positioned within the folded sheet. Position information is also determined, indicating the instantaneous distance between the folded edge of the sheet with a hole punch in the hole punching device. By comparing provided position information with a correct hole location determined from the sheet information, the drive system advances the folded edge of the sheet to a position within the punching device where the punch creates a hole.

摘要: A document printing and finishing system includes a computer and a standalone finishing machine. The computer is used to print individual sheets that are to be assembled into a finished document by the finishing machine. In addition, the computer prompts its operator for finishing instructions, and then prints an instruction sheet setting forth such finishing instructions. In addition to being set forth in human-readable terms, the instructions are recorded in barcode form or some other format that is easily readable by a computer-based device. After the document sheets and instruction sheet have been printed, an operator submits them to the finishing machine. The finishing machine scans and decodes the instructions from the instruction sheet and automatically configures itself to finish the document in the manner prescribed by the instruction sheet.

摘要: A scanning device and method for forming a scanned electronic image include using navigation information that is acquired along with image data, and then rectifying the image data based upon the navigation and image information. The navigation information is obtained in frames. The differences between consecutive frames are detected and accumulated, and this accumulated displacement value is representative of a position of the scanning device relative to a reference. The image data is then positioned-tagged using the position data obtained from the accumulated displacement value. To avoid the accumulation of errors, the accumulated displacement value obtained from consecutive frames is updated by comparing a current frame with a much earlier frame stored in memory and using the resulting difference as the displacement from the earlier frame. These larger displacement steps are then accumulated to determine the relative position of the scanning device.

摘要: An ink jet print cartridge liquid toner container (14) is refillable at a service station (60) in a printer (50). Liquid toner is forced into the liquid toner container (14) from a liquid toner reservoir (70) through a refill tube (26) extending into the interior of the foam-filled container (14). Simultaneously, a volume of air and toner is withdrawn from the upper portion of the foam (20) through an evacuation tube (30) at a rate equal to or greater than the refill rate. Typically, a portion of the volume of foam (20) is filled with air so that the foam (20) fills with toner as air is removed.

摘要: The present invention provides a digital camera capturing technique for documents. In one embodiment, a method for a digital camera capturing technique includes determining an orientation of an object (e.g., a document) relative to an optical axis of the digital camera, and determining a distance of the object from the digital camera. The method also includes determining a planarity of the object (e.g., a curl of the document). The method further includes projecting a pattern on the object, and detecting the projected pattern, which is then processed to determine the orientation of the object relative to the optical axis of the digital camera, the distance of the object from the digital camera, and the planarity of the object.

摘要: An integrated circuit for use in the printhead of an ink jet printer includes an array circuit for heating an ink reservoir to produce a pattern of ink jets, the array circuit including a plurality of resistor cells arranged into rows and columns. A corresponding number of row and column lines are coupled to the integrated circuit array for selecting and energizing the resistor cells according to the desired printing pattern. An identification circuit integrated into the same substrate as the array circuit includes one or more programmable paths, the programmable paths corresponding and coupled to each row line. The programmable paths each include the serial combination of a programmable fuse and an active device. The opposite end of the programmable paths are coupled together at a common node, which in turn is coupled to an output circuit for providing a single output signal in response to a polling of the row lines. The identification circuit can be programmed and polled without adversely affecting or energizing the array circuit.
