    摘要： A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture limit unauthorized access to digital services. A hidden non-modifiable identification number is embedded into a nonvolatile memory component. The hidden number uniquely identifies a device containing the nonvolatile memory component and access to digital services is based on rights associated with the hidden number. Access to the nonvolatile memory is isolated such that access to the identification number is limited to a fixed state custom logic block. The custom logic block has hardware configured to use the hidden number and other information to provide an output that is a function of the hidden number and that can be used to confirm an identity of a device without revealing information that can be used to impersonate the device.

    摘要： A method and system for transmitting audio-associated text information in a multiple-channel transmission stream is disclosed herein. The method includes the steps of receiving text information associated with a song, formatting the information into song data, inserting the song data into a control data stream associated with an audio channel carrying a particular song, multiplexing the control data stream with a data stream associated with the song, transmitting the multiplexed data stream, receiving the control data stream, decoding the control data stream to obtain text associated with the song, and displaying the text. The method utilizes an existing control stream in the multiplexed transmission stream to forward text to a receiver. The receiver therefore requires no additional hardware to display the text on a connected video screen.

    摘要： Program materials received from a direct broadcast satellite system are distributed between a host receiver and a client receiver for remote decryption. Using either a same pairing key or different host and client pairing keys, an encrypted media encryption key is received at both the host and client receivers, and the encrypted media encryption key is decrypted at both the host and client receivers using the pairing key. Encrypted program materials are received from the broadcast system at the host receiver, and the encrypted program materials are decrypted at the host receiver using the media encryption key. The encrypted program materials are also transferred from the host receiver to the client receiver, where the encrypted program materials are decrypted at the client receiver using the media encryption key.

    摘要： A method and apparatus for storing and retrieving program material for subsequent replay is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of receiving a data stream comprising the program material encrypted according to a first encryption key, decrypting the program material; re-encrypting the program material according to a second encryption key; and storing the re-encrypted material in a media storage device. The program material is played back by retrieving the re-encrypted material from the media storage device and decrypting the re-encrypted program material. In one embodiment, the second encryption key is derived from metadata describing replay rights. In a further embodiment, the media storage device also stores the second encryption key which has been further encrypted by a key that is unique to the device used to receive the program material.

A secret key (Ka) is obtained and encrypted into an authorization key message (AKM) message. One or more media content encryption keys (Kc) are obtained and encrypted using one or more of the entitlement keys (Ke) as encryption keys into an entitlement control message (ECM). Digital media data content (Dc) is then obtained and encrypted using the one or more media content encryption keys (Kc). The AKM, EMM, ECM, and encrypted digital media data content are then delivered to a set-top box that is configured to provide digital media services with the content.
