    摘要: In a brake system for a boiler feed water pump wherein a flat-sided brake disc is mounted on a rotating shaft, arms are hingedly mounted on a base frame at the lower end of each arm, the arms being positioned at diametrically opposite sides of the disc, the base frame extending between the lower ends of the arms, calipers are mounted on the arms to embrace diametrically opposite areas of the sides of the disc. A yoke is mounted on the upper ends of the arms in such a way as to be easily dismounted. The yoke is conventional. When it is desired to repair the calipers or to remove one of the shafts upon which the brake disc is mounted or with which it is integral, with the shaft and disc not rotating, as when the unit is out of service, it is only necessary to remove the yoke, and swing the arms out away from the disc. The brakes can easily be inspected and repaired, as well. The brakes are actuated by an intensifier system, in which an intensifier is connected to a valve which is connected to a reservoir. When the valve is opened, the pressure in the hydraulic line to the brake is monitored, and if it is below the desired pressure, the intensifier is caused to repeat, to pull hydraulic fluid into the intensifier, hence to the brake line, and to the brake calipers, causing the calipers to brake the disc and shaft to a stop, and to hold it stopped indefinitely.

    摘要: In a system in which a large motor, to be energized from a power grid, is connected to drive a main fluid drive through a main impeller shaft that has a main impeller shaft gear mounted on it, a relatively small start-up motor is provided, driving a start-up fluid drive. A start-up gear is connected to be driven by the start-up fluid drive and selectively to drive the main impeller shaft gear, and to be disengaged from the main impeller shaft gear. In operation, the small motor is first started, with the start-up gear engaging the main impeller shaft gear, and brought up to a speed at which the large motor begins to rotate at close to synchronous speed with the electrical frequency of the grid, at which point the large motor is connected to the grid.

    摘要: A fluid drive system in which a forged alloy steel impeller rotated by an input shaft at a constant speed drives a runner through a fluidic coupling, wherein selectively variable differential speed between the impeller and runner is produced by varying the amount of oil between the impeller and runner, wherein both the impeller and runner have radially extending vanes between them defining pockets between them with a bottom surface, the impeller is provided with reinforcing elements integral with the vanes, each reinforcing element spanning a pocket and being clear of the bottom surface. The runner can also be provided with such elements. In any case, the vanes and reinforcing elements are machined from a forged alloy steel billet, by a multi-axis Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) milling machine under three-dimensional control with specialized tooling. The vanes can be planar but at an angle either to the face or to the radius, or vanes which are curved, or twisted, as required to optimize the fluid performance of the fluid drive can be provided. Preferably, the impeller and runner are provided with facing lips at a rim section, the lips projecting toward one another in direct confrontation beyond a plane defined by free edges of the vanes.
