Abstract:
Methods for monitoring a heat treating atmosphere supply a preselected gas atmosphere at a preselected temperature to a heat treating furnace. The preselected temperature is not greater than a temperature at which wustite (FeO) forms. The methods sense the preselected gas atmosphere and the preselected temperature and compute a computed ratio of gaseous hydrogen H2 (g) to water vapor H2O (g) for the preselected atmosphere as a function of the sensed values.

Abstract:
The invention provides compositions of inactivated influenza virus that can be used as vaccines and immunological compositions useful for inhibiting, preventing and treating influenza.
Abstract:
The invention provides compositions of inactivated viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites and tumor cells that can be used as vaccines. Methods for making such inactivated viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites and tumor cells are also provided.
Abstract:
The invention involves inactivation of viral populations by treating the viral populations with a compound to crosslink proteins in the viral membrane, UV irradiation and further inactivation of the viruses using detergent(s). According to the invention, this method preserves the native structure of viral epitopes so that the inactivated viral preparations can be used in immunological compositions that will inhibit and/or prevent viral infection when administered to an animal.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods of preventing infection by retroviruses and methods of treatment of patients suffering from or susceptible to a viral infection. More particularly, the present invention provides methods of preventing viral infection and methods of treating retroviral infections which comprise the administration of at least one compound comprising N-4-(hydroxyphenyl)retinamide. Preferred methods of the invention are suitable for use in the treatment of patients who are HIV positive or are suffering from or are susceptible to AIDS.

Abstract:
An emblem comprises a first layer of fabric which has been deformed by a calendering process including the application of heat and pressure. A pattern is formed on the first surface of the fabric layer and a second layer of thermoplastic adhesive material is bonded to a second surface of the fabric layer. The application of the calendering process to the fabric layer compresses and deforms the fibers of the fabric to provide a flat, even surface with high luster.
