    摘要: A spinal implant is inserted between adjacent vertebrae to function as an disk prosthesis. The prosthesis has two plates fastened to adjacent vertebrae facing each other. The facing sides of the plates each have a depending skirt formed as concentric arcs of about 90 degrees. The skirts are either bowed or tapered in the axial direction. A protrusion is centrally located between the arcs on one plate and a depression is centrally located between the arcs of the other plate. A spring mechanism is centrally located on one of the plates to provide axial compression. The plates are oriented to each other with the concentric arcs of each interrupted skirt at 90 degrees and the protrusion is engaged in the depression. The plates are then rotated about 90 degrees and the opposed arcs of one plate interlock with the opposed arcs of the other plate to prevent separation in the axial direction.

    摘要: An apparatus for positioning and restraining a patient's appendage in a desired attitude during surgery includes a tray movable along a rail on the operating table. The tray extends over the patient receiving surface of the operating table and has a fastener on the upper surface which cooperates with a fastener on a wrap enclosing the patient's appendage. By adjusting the brackets along the length of the operating table rail, the patient's appendage will be flexed to a position desired by the surgeon. Locking the brackets in place retains the desired flex during the procedure. The frame of the apparatus is reusable through sterilization and the tray is provided in a sterilized condition and disposable after surgery.

    摘要: One method of reducing fractures in long bones is to insert an intramedullary screw through the bone canal across the fracture and deploy tangs to increase the purchase of the screw. Compression is then applied along the screw to bring the broken bone together. An improved low cost lag screw has a cannulated shaft with a shaped bore in the leading end. A similarly shaped tang body is movably disposed in the leading end bore. The tang body has several tangs laser welded about the periphery and extending from the tang body. The shaped surfaces of the bore have exit holes and the ends of the tangs are adjacent the holes. An end cap is laser welded to the leading end of the shaft.
