    摘要: A package assembly machine and method for continuously placing articles in open hollow containers to form packages. A transport unit mounted on an endless conveyor moves an article from a pick up station to a package assembly station where the article is placed in an inverted hollow container to form the package. The package is moved by the transport unit along the endless conveyor and turned upside down. As the package is turned, a hook-shaped circumferential lip on the container engages the lip of a support plate of the transport unit and supports the package. The right side up package is carried to a takeaway station and placed on a discharge conveyor for movement to a sealing machine.

    摘要: A foil roll having a wound stiffener core formed from an initially flat sheet of stiffener material fed into a spiral roll winder simultaneously with a feed end of a foil web. An apparatus and method for spirally winding a foil roll with a wound stiffener core in which a stiffener sheet is fed into a roll winder in adjacent outward contact with a foil web and a leading edge of the stiffener slightly ahead of a feed end of a foil web. The stiffener sheet is outwardly disposed from the foil web and in adjacent contact with the roll starter guides to prevent contact between guides and the foil web during initial core formation. Roll starter guides are moved from contact with the outer periphery of the roll once the initial core is formed allowing a desired length of foil web to be spirally wound around the core without damage to the web. The apparatus is configured to receive a continuous supply of foil and stiffener web material, cut each to predetermined lengths, and sequentially form wound core foil rolls at an economically high rate.

    摘要: A web cutter includes a knife roll located above an anvil roll, a web infeed conveyor for moving a continuous web to be severed to the nip between the rolls and a segment discharge conveyor for removing segments cut from the web. The roll includes a plurality of fixed cutting knives and the anvil roll includes a plurality of fixed anvils such that rotation of the rolls brings each knife into engagement with an anvil to sever the web. Lift plates on the anvil roll are located immediately upstream from each anvil to raise the severed lead end of the web above the anvil in order to assure proper feeding to the discharge conveyor.

    摘要: A stack making machine includes an infeed conveyor for moving successive web segments to an orbital stacker which pushes the segments down from the infeed conveyor and onto one of two pairs of stack support members located to either side of the infeed conveyor. Drives lower the stack support members and place stacks built up on the stack support members on a discharge conveyor. The drives move the stack support members around like paths extending down from a first position under one side of the infeed conveyor beneath the stacker to the discharge conveyor, out away from the discharge conveyor and then back up to the first position.
