Abstract:
A small radio apparatus such as a pager has a printed circuit loop antenna(12) comprising a generally elongate loop formed by first and second electrical conductors(22,24) interconnected by first and second electrically conductive end portions(18,20). A fixed value high Q capacitance(26) is incorporated into the first end portion(18) and a variable capacitance(30) is incorporated in a tap(28) interconnecting the first and second conductors(22,24) adjacent to, but spaced from, the second end portion(20). The loop antenna may be fabricated from low loss material or may comprise a track or back-to-back tracks on a dielectric substrate. The loop antenna(12) may be connected directly to RF circuitry or may be coupled inductively to the RF circuitry.

An extended run time device for extending the time that a compressor-based heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system runs so as to increase energy efficiency of the HVAC system. The extended run time device includes a sensing circuit, a switching device and a processor. Based upon a signal from the sensing circuit, the processor causes the switching device to transmit a proxy control signal to the compressor, thereby causing power to the compressor to be maintained for a time period longer than a time period requested by the temperature control device.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for forming a shallow ditch in wood shavings on the floor of a chicken house and laying a web of paper over the ditch while forcibly pushing the central portion of the web into the ditch with the remainder of the paper disposed at the shoulders of the ditch. The apparatus includes a plow depending downwardly from a frame and a beam pivoted to the frame which supports a wheel behind the plow. A roll of paper may be carried by spindles on the frame between the plow and the wheel. The wheel, in operation, is positioned on the upper surface of a web of paper unwound from the roll to permit the roll to unwind while simultaneously pushing the paper into the ditch.

A system and method are configured to apply region level optimizations to a selected region of source code rather than loop level optimizations to a loop or loop nest. The region may include an outer loop, a plurality of inner loops and at least one control code. If the region includes an exceptional control flow statement and/or a procedure call, speculative region-level multi-versioning may be applied.
