Abstract: An electric machine incorporates a brush assembly that provides an audible warning when the brush in the brush assembly approaches the end of its useable length. The brush incorporates a device incorporated into the brush or a brush design which cooperates with the brush holder to generate the noise. The noise provides a warning to the user of the electric machine that the useable length of the brush material is near.

Abstract: A ballast for energizing a lamp at a lighting level selected from a plurality of lamp lighting levels. The ballast includes a buck converter circuit configured to receive a DC voltage signal having a substantially constant magnitude. The buck converter circuit has a duty cycle for generating a lamp voltage output signal from the DC voltage signal. The lamp voltage output signal has a magnitude that is varied by the duty cycle to energize the lamp at the plurality of lamp lighting levels. A controller is configured to receive a dim input signal indicative of the selected lamp lighting level and to provide a control signal to the buck converter circuit as a function of the dim input signal. The control signal indicates a particular duty cycle corresponding to a lamp voltage output signal having a magnitude for energizing the lamp at the selected lamp lighting level.

Abstract: A ballast including an inverter circuit for providing an oscillating power signal for energizing at least one lamp. The inverter circuit includes a first transistor having a first gain and a second transistor having a second gain, each configured for alternately operating between a conductive state and a non-conductive state. The power signal has a waveform cycle comprising a first pulse generated when a first transistor operates in a conductive state, and a second pulse generated when the second transistor operates in a conductive state. The integral value of the first pulse of each waveform cycle of the power signal is different from the integral value of the second pulse of each waveform cycle such that a differential relationship between the first gain and the second gain is greater than or equal to a minimum value in order to minimize lamp striations.

Abstract: According to several embodiments of the invention, a radio frequency identification (RFID) interrogator utilizing a circuit to remove unwanted distortion from a received signal is described. The interrogator transmits a transmitted signal continuously, while receiving a received signal from a radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. The circuit samples the transmitted signal, and removes the unwanted distortion created by the transmitted signal from the received signal.

Abstract: A photo-therapeutic, electrodeless lamp (10) comprising a closed-loop envelope (12) containing an arc generating and sustaining medium that includes mercury. A phosphor coating (14) is provided on the interior surface of the envelope (12). The phosphor coating is capable of generating a first radiation in response to excitation from 254 nm radiation and provides the first radiation having an energy output in the region of 335-430 nm. This wavelength region is most efficient for the treatment of morphea or scleroderma. The output radiated energy from the lamp in the 335-430 nm region is ≧20,000 μW/cm2. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the phosphor is SrB4O7:Eu, which has a spectral response with a peak between 366-368 nm with a bandwidth of about 18 nm.
