Abstract:
The present invention provides methods of making block resistant coated substrates, such as boards, sheets, panels, tiles, assemblies or membranes for use in building and construction, such as for exterior use, the methods comprising coating a substrate with a coating composition of one or more aqueous emulsion polymers and one or more photoinitiators, such as a hydrogen abstraction initiator, onto the substrate to form a coated substrate, at least partially curing or drying the coating, and exposing the at least partially cured coating on the coated substrate to UV light to cause the photoinitiator to react with itself or with the coating composition. In the methods, the wavelength of the UV light used preferably matches or at least overlaps the spectral activation or excitation window of the one or more photoinitiators.
Abstract:
The present invention provides aqueous compositions for treating fluff pulp comprising (i) one or more acrylic acid polymers containing phosphinate groups and having a weight average molecular weight of from 1,000 to 6,000 and (ii) from 5 to 50 wt. %, based on the total solids weight of the aqueous compositions, of one or more polyethylene glycols, having a formula weight of from 150 to 7,000, or, preferably, from 200 to 600. The present invention also provides individualized, intrafiber crosslinked cellulosic fibers comprising the cellulosic fiber and, in cured form, the aqueous compositions, as well as methods of making the individualized, intrafiber crosslinked cellulosic fibers.
Abstract:
A formulation contains an anionically stabilized dispersion of polymer particles, a polymeric polyamine and an inorganic filler has a pH in a range of 6.0 to 8.5, viscosity greater than 15000 centipoise, and is free of volatile base, aminosilanes, and quaternary poly(allylamine).
Abstract:
According to the present invention, curable aqueous compositions provide excellent wet tensile strength and comprise (i) one or more polyacid, (ii) a mixture of two or more polyols including pentaerythritol, (iii) a carbohydrate, such as a starch, and (iv) from 0.5 to 12 wt. %, based on total solids, of one or more azetidinium group containing polyamidoamine resins. The compositions are useful in providing fibrous articles, such as heat resistant nonwovens.

Abstract:
The present invention provides aqueous urea formaldehyde resin (UF resin) compositions having a pH or 7.0 or more, preferably, 8.5 or more, and comprising the UF resin modified with from 2.5 to 15 wt. %, of at least one ammonia or volatile amine neutralized carboxylic acid group containing solution polymer or alkali soluble emulsion polymer modifier, based on total UF resin and polymer solids, wherein the polymer modifier is the reaction product of 30 to 100 wt. % of methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, maleic anhydride, a salt thereof, or mixtures thereof, wherein the solution polymer has a weight average molecular weight of from 2,000 to 16,000 and the alkali soluble emulsion copolymer has a weight average molecular weight of from 1,500 to 20,000. The compositions enable the provision of untreated glass mats having improved wet web strength to prevent mat breakage in process.
