This invention pertains to an addition-curable silicone adhesive composition that is extrudable and flowable at room temperature in the absence of a solvent comprising (A) 40 to 95 parts of an alkenyl functional siloxane resin consisting essentially of R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 siloxane units and SiO.sub.4/2 siloxane units, wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; there being from 0.5 to 1.5 R.sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 units for every SiO.sub.4/2 units; said resin containing 0.01 to 22 wt % alkenyl functionality; (B) 0.5 to 10 parts of an SiH containing polyorganosiloxane having an average of at least 2 silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule and having a viscosity of 0.8 to 2,000 mm.sup.2 /s; (C) a hydrosilylation catalyst in sufficient quantity to promote curing of said composition; (D) optionally, up to 70 parts of a polydiorganosiloxane having at least two ethylenically or acetylenically unsaturated groups per molecule and having a viscosity of 100 to 80,000 mm.sup.2 /s; and (E) optionally, an inhibitor in sufficient quantity for the composition to be stable at room temperature in the absence of oxygen and SiH reactive hydroxylated compounds.

The present invention provides microencapsulated hydrosilylation catalysts for one-part heat curable organosiloxane compositions. Compositions containing these exhibit long-term storage stability yet cure rapidly when heated above the melting point of the encapsulating polymer. At least a portion of these microcapsules are less than one micron in diameter, and substantially all are less than about three microns in diameter. Compositions containing the preferred platinum group metals as catalysts are optically transparent.The microencapsulated curing catalysts of this invention are prepared by irradiating with UV light in the wavelength range of from 300 to 400 nanometers a solution containing (1) at least one of a specified group of photocrosslinkable organosiloxane compounds derived from propargyl esters of carboxylic acids containing a terminal aromatic hydrocarbon radical and at least two ethylenically unsaturated carbon atoms and (2) a liquid or solubilized hydrosilylation catalyst.

A method of producing elastomeric silicone foams from a two-part system is disclosed. The method mixes the ingredients then allows a froth to form and cure at ambient temperature to an elastomeric silicone foam. The method mixes a vinyl-containing polydiorganosiloxane (1), a hydroxylated polydiorganosiloxane (2), a platinum catalyst (3), an organohydrogensiloxane (4) and a profoamer (5). The profoamer is a resinous, benzene-soluble organosiloxane copolymer consisting essentially of SiO.sub.4/2 units, silicone bonded hydroxyl groups, (CH.sub.3).sub.3 SiO.sub.1/2 units, and fluorine-containing units. An embodiment of the method includes a liquified blowing agent and stores the mixture under superatmospheric pressure, forming a foam by releasing the mixture to atmospheric pressure. Another embodiment includes an alcohol in the mixture to provide a foam of lower density. When lauryl alcohol is used and the alcohol is mixed with (1), (3), and (5) before (2) is admixed, the foam has a Bashore resiliency of less than 20.

These unsaturated organosilicon compositions are useful as partial or complete replacements for the analogous organosilicon compositions bearing the well-known silicon-bonded vinyl radical. In particular, vinyldimethylcarbinoxy-endblocked polydimethylsiloxane is useful as a component in an elastomeric composition which is cured with an organosilicon hydride.
