    摘要: The polarization-maintaining optical fiber 10 of the present invention is designed so that a plurality of core portions 12a,12b which have a high refractive index is provided in parallel along a single diameter direction in the cross section of the optical fiber, these core portions 12a,12b cooperating to propagate a single fundamental mode. In the production method for the polarization-maintaining optical fiber of the present invention, a plurality of holes 22 are formed longitudinally in parallel along a single diameter direction of a glass rod 21 having a low refractive index which forms the cladding, glass rods 23 for core use having a high refractive index which form the core portions are inserted into these holes 22, heating to form a unitary body is carried out, creating a preform which is then drawn. Further, the rare-earth-doped polarization-maintaining optical fiber of the present invention uses a rare earth element to dope the optical waveguide portion of the polarization-maintaining optical fiber, and can be employed in a light amplifier or laser oscillator. Moreover, the polarization-maintaining optical fiber coupler of the present invention is formed by bringing two or more polarization maintaining optical fibers into contact, heating, fusing and elongating them, and heating the vicinity of the connection point before and after connection.

    摘要: In trapping process of a multicolor image, an adjacent vector between an objective figure and a relative figure at an upper side is specified first. Then, with the use of the contour of the objective figure except for this adjacent vector, an adjacent vector between the objective figure and a lower relative figure is extracted. This enables to extract, as an adjacent vector, only the portion at which the color of the objective figure and the color of the lower related figure are adjacent each other in appearance. Therefore, the trapping process is executable without generating any unwanted color component on the image.

    摘要: A toy top which can also be used as a badge, and a drive unit which can mechanically spin the toy top with ease in a simple manner. The toy top has first engaging portions on the upper surface of the main body thereof, a first hook portion on the outer periphery thereof and a central spindle about which a knob is removably screw-fitted. The toy top comprises a main body having first engaging portions, a first hook portion and a central spindle screw-fitted with a knob while the drive unit comprises a rotatable member having second engaging portions to engage the first engaging portions of the toy top, a spring for rotating the rotatable member, a second hook portion to engage the second hook portion of the toy top and operating member for releasing the engagement of the second hook portion with the first hook portion of the toy top. Further, some modifications of the structures of the toy top and the drive unit are also disclosed. Where the toy top is used as a badge, the knob fitted on the central spindle of the main body of the toy top is first removed and after passing the spindle through the user's clothing, the knob is fitted again on the spindle.
