Abstract: Systems and methods for processing a C4 and C5 stream are disclosed. A pygas stream can be separated in a depentanizer to produce a C4 and C5 stream and a C6 to C9+ stream. The C4 and C5 stream is further processed to recover C5 dienes including isoprene, pentadiene, cyclopentadiene, or combinations thereof. The C6 to C9+ stream is further processed to recover aromatics including benzene, toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene, or combinations thereof.

Abstract: Systems and methods for producing dicyclopentadiene via thermal dimerization of cyclopentadiene. The feed stream comprising cyclopentadiene is flowed through four shell and tube heat exchangers in series. Each of the shell and tube heat exchangers comprise a shell and one or more tubes disposed in the shell. The feed stream is flowed in the tubes while the heat transfer medium is flowed in the shell to absorb the exothermic heat released by the dimerization of cyclopentadiene in the tubes. In this way, the temperature in the tubes is controlled at a level where the conversion rate of cyclopentadiene is above 99% and the occurrence of runaway reaction is substantially prevented.

Abstract: A process for producing isopentane and isoamylene can comprise passing a feed stream comprising C5 hydrocarbons through a hydrodesulfurization assembly to produce a first stream: passing the first stream to a first separation assembly to produce a second stream and a first separated stream: passing the second stream to a deisopentanizer assembly to produce a second separated stream comprising isopentane, a third separated stream comprising C6+ hydrocarbons, and a raffinate stream comprising C5 hydrocarbons; and passing the raffinate stream to a reactor assembly to produce a reaction product stream comprising isoamylene. The present disclosure also provides for a system for producing isopentane and isoamylene.

Abstract: Methods for the selective hydrogenation of acetylenic compounds in a product stream that includes isoprene. A method of selectively hydrogenating an acetylenic hydrocarbon in the presence of isoprene may include obtaining a hydrocarbon mixture comprising an acetylenic hydrocarbon, isoprene, and butadiene or cyclopentadiene, or both. If cyclopentadiene is present, the hydrocarbon mixture may comprise greater than 2 wt. % cyclopentadiene. The method may further include contacting the hydrocarbon mixture and hydrogen (H2) with a hydrogenation catalyst under reaction conditions that are more selective to the hydrogenation of the acetylenic hydrocarbon than the isoprene.

Under appropriate reaction conditions, cyclopentadiene is dimerized to form dicyclopentadiene.
