Abstract: A technique facilitates controlled creation of pressure waves in a downhole environment. The technique enables creation of, for example, dynamic underbalance (DUB) pressure waves or dynamic overbalance (DOB) pressure waves which can be used to perform desired activities downhole. According to an embodiment, a pump is coupled with a pressure chamber and conveyed downhole into a borehole to a desired location. The pump may be operated downhole to change a pressure level in the pressure chamber until a sufficient pressure differential exists between an interior and an exterior of the pressure chamber. A release mechanism in communication with the pressure chamber is then rapidly opened to establish the desired pressure wave as the differing pressures equalize.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing a radial drilling operation using a shaft are disclosed. The shaft can be flexible and can be made of a series of links, each of which can have a hexagonal or other suitable shape to impart a torque along the linkage. A cable system can be run through the middle of the links and can be resiliently tensioned to permit a different degree of flexure according to the amount of tension in the cable and resilient member. Accordingly, the shaft can be rigid, selectively permitted to flex, or can be brought back to a straight or at least a less-bent position.

Abstract: A bottom hole assembly (BHA) operable to be conveyed within a wellbore extending into a subterranean formation from a wellsite surface via coiled tubing. The BHA may operable to receive a fluid pumped from the wellsite surface via the coiled tubing. The BHA may include a fluid control tool comprising a first fluid passage extending longitudinally through the fluid control tool and a plurality of first fluid outlets extending radially between the first fluid passage and the wellbore. The fluid control tool may be selectively operable to close the first fluid passage and open the plurality of first fluid outlets to pass the fluid into the wellbore via the plurality of first fluid outlets, and close the plurality of first fluid outlets and open the first fluid passage to pass the fluid through first fluid passage. The BHA may further include a tractor operable to move the BHA along the wellbore coupled downhole from the fluid control tool. The tractor may have a second fluid passage fluidly connected with the first fluid passage. The BHA may also include a fluid outlet sub coupled downhole from the tractor having a plurality of second fluid outlets fluidly connected with the first fluid passage and extending radially outward to fluidly connect the second fluid passage and the wellbore, and a bent sub coupled downhole from the fluid outlet sub and operable for steering the BHA.

Abstract: A connector system includes a first sub and a second sub having a landing shoulder, and the first sub carries a threaded sleeve for engaging the second sub. The first sub includes a stinger section and a flying nut that provides a sealed and torque carrying connection when secured against the landing shoulder of the second sub. The first sub may be connected to the second sub without rotation of the ends of the first sub and the second sub. In some cases the first sub and the second sub are in any angular orientation when the sealed and torque carrying connection is provided. Further, the connector system may provide a connection between two sections of a downhole tool assembly without rotating or orienting in any way the angular position of the two sections. In some cases, torque applied in a wellbore milling operation further seals the sealed joint.

Abstract: A downhole hydraulic tool employing multiple nozzles in a selectable fashion from an oilfield surface. At least one of the nozzles of the tool is equipped with a burst disk such that fluid pressure directed from the surface may be utilized in activating the nozzle. The pressure may be driven to exceed a predetermined level for sake of the activating by way of sealing off access to other nozzle(s) therebelow, for example, by way of standard ball drop techniques. Thus, nozzle selectivity may be taken advantage of when a first nozzle wears out without requiring time consuming removal of the tool from the well for sake of remedial repairs or replacement.
