Abstract: FULLY HYDROGENATED NAPTHENIC HYDROCARBON LUBRICATING OILS HAVING LOW POUR POINTS, HIGH VISCOSITY INDICES AND CONTAINING AT LEAST 0.7 MOLE OF NAPHTHENE MOLECULES PER MOLE OF ISOPARAFFIN MOLECULES ARE PRODUCED BY OLIGOMERIZING C6-C12 NORMAL ALPHA-OLEFINS IN THE PRESENCE OF AN ALKALI METAL TETRAHALOALANATE CATALYST AND SUBSEQUENTLY HYDROGENATING THE RESULTING OLIGOMERIC PRODUCT.
