    摘要: A cup-shaped article former has a hollow cylindrical redraw blankholder which moves from a rearward article feed position axially forwardly into a rearwardly opening cup-shaped article and positions the article against a redraw die ring maintaining a predetermined pressure thereon while a reciprocal ram moves forwardly internally of the blankholder and article engaging the article and carrying it forwardly between the blankholder and die ring in a drawing operation. The blankholder is moved forwardly and rearwardly between rearward article feed and forward article drawing positions and is maintained precisely positioned in the article drawing position by securement of the blankholder to a blankholder mounting frame secured to forward ends of spaced, reciprocal rods, the rods extending rearwardly of the former and being pivotally connected to upper ends of pivotal cam follower arms. The cam follower arms mount cam followers thereon engaged with cam surfaces of rotatable cams, the cam followers being maintained against the cam surfaces under constant pressure of retention air cylinders. A rearwardly compressible and forwardly expansible air cylinder is formed in the blankholder mounting frame for securing the blankholder to the blankholder mounting frame so as to exert a force against the cup-shaped article resisted by the cup-shaped article engagement against the redraw die ring during movement of the article from the blankholder through the die ring by the ram. A motion limiting mechanism is associated with the blankholder mounting frame air cylinder and the blankholder retaining the blankholder spaced from the die ring as the article leaves the blankholder and finally passes completely through the die ring.

    摘要: A stripper surrounds an axially moving ram carrying a tubular article to be stripped therefrom by engagement of a leading edge thereof. A multiplicity of circumferentially adjacent stripper fingers are normally urged forwardly to a preset maximum forward position by individual finger reciprocal pistons which move relatively freely rearwardly from each individual finger engagement with the article leading edge as determined by the leading edge contour. Rearward movement of the finger pistons against a preset volume of liquid forces a portion of the liquid through a header into a liquid collector until substantially all of the fingers have been contacted by the article leading edge, after which, the collector bottoms positively opposing any further liquid flow therein creating through said liquid and finger pistons a positive reverse force stopping rearward movement of said fingers in their individual then rearward positions to strip the article. Various components can be incorporated assisting in stripping once stripping commences, detecting commencement of stripping and detecting lack of an article to be stripped.

    摘要: A one-piece metallic can body positioned stationary on a mandrel has a can body open end trimmed by cutting a scrap ring therefrom which, after such trimming, still surrounds portions of the trimmer mechanisms. During the can body trimming, the can body open end portion ultimately forming the scrap ring, although stationary during trimming, is received in slotted scrap positioners of diametrically opposite, constantly rotating nipper assemblies with the scrap ring immediately being rotated by the scrap positioners upon complete severance from the can body. As the nipper assemblies rotate rotating the now severed scrap ring, the nipper assemblies are actuated, one at a time, by an actuator at a set circumferential location, the nipper assemblies having nipper rods cammed reciprocally inwardly along the scrap positioners to cut the scrap ring into two separated parts. As soon as the scrap ring parts are separated, they are urged outwardly by centrifical force away from the trimmer components and ultimately fall downwardly into a scrap disposal chute. A constantly rotating, peripherally threaded, scrap removal cylinder is positioned inwardly of the nipper assemblies and trimmer mechanisms for constantly urging any portions of the scrap ring or pieces axially away from the trimmer mechanisms in the event they are displaced inwardly thereagainst.

A monitoring pressure force slightly less than the force of the operating fluid when the operating fluid is at a minimum working pressure is exerted against the plunger tending to move the plunger from this first to a second position. Thus, when the pressure of the operating fluid drops below the minimum working pressure, the plunger is moved to its second position and such movement is sensed, thereby sensing the malfunction.

    摘要: A series of circumferentially aligned, generally T-shaped cross section stripper members are positioned in a retainer ring with stripper member finger extensions projecting into a central opening of the retainer ring through which a ram end passes rearwardly with a cup-shaped article thereon and forwardly during stripping of the article from the ram end. The stripper members are received in an annular, inwardly opening recess of the retainer ring, T-shaped in cross section generally corresponding to the stripper members. A circumferentially surrounding garter spring normally urges the stripper members radially inwardly with axially spaced, radially inwardly facing stripper member surfaces abutting corresponding retainer ring recess walls, axially opposite stripper member ends abutting corresponding retainer ring recess end walls and the stripper member finger extensions projecting angularly rearwardly into the retainer ring central opening to a diameter less than the outer diameter of the cupshaped articles carried by the ram end. During movement of the cup-shaped articles rearwardly through the stripper members by the ram end, the stripper members pivot outwardly about an arcuate surface on the forward ends thereof and over the retainer ring corresponding recess wall, while stripper member rearward arcuate end surfaces slide radially along the retainer ring corresponding recess wall and other surfaces and walls separate permitting such pivoting. After the cup-shaped articles have passed rearwardly the stripper members return generally to normal position so as to engage the ends of the cup-shaped articles upon forward return movement of the ram end with the stripper member finger extensions, thereby forcing the cup shaped articles from the ram end.
