摘要: An apparatus for measuring fluid pressure in a passage or tube for use with medical apparatus such as balloon catheters. A diaphragm gauge is provided and includes a case which houses a first diaphragm, a translation mechanism connected to the first diaphragm and a pointer attached to the translation mechanism for providing readouts of fluid pressure. The diaphragm is coupled to a fluid passage, such that changes in fluid pressure cause the diaphragm to activate the translation mechanism, thus providing readouts by means of the pointer. A second diaphragm is provided for sealing the fluid passage from the first diaphragm, for preventing transfer of materials between the first diaphragm and the passage. The second diaphragm is of a biocompatible, nonpyrogenic, sterlizable material, such a polyurethane, polyvinylchloride, or polyethylene. Alternatively, a biocompatible, nonpyrogenic coating may be provided on the first diaphragm for sealing it from the fluid passage. In an alternative embodiment, the fluid passage is configured for tightly receiving a catheter, the wall of which contacts the first diaphragm for transmitting pressure due to fluid within the catheter to the first diaphragm. The translation mechanism may be a mechanical lever for converting diaphragm movements to rotational movement of the pointer, or it may be an electronic transducer, in which case the pointer and dial are replaced by an electronically actuable display.

摘要: An apparatus is provided for sealing around shafts or tubes of varying diameter. Its basic element comprises an elastomeric sealing body with an axial passage which is radially compressed from more than two sides to compress the passage into sealing engagement with a member extending through the passage. Radial compression is achieved by cams and followers disposed around the body which cooperate with angularly spaced radially extending lugs formed integrally with the body. The cams are spring biased to normally compress the axial passage of the sealing body. Levers operable by one hand of the user are provided to selectively release the apparatus.

摘要: A hand-held and operated pneumatically powered device for injecting fluids, such as in medical applications, consisting of a housing that is sized and shaped to be hand held, and connected power and infusion assemblies contained within the housing. The power assembly includes a sealed vessel containing pressurized gas, a lever-needle vessel-puncturing mechanism, a gas flow path leading from the needle to the infusion assembly, and pressure regulator and pressure relief mechanism (which may include a pneumatic flow control orifice) interposed in the flow path. The infusion assembly includes a two-way valve for exhausting the gas or directing it into a power chamber for receiving the gas connected in tandem with an infusion chamber that holds the infusate, a two-headed piston contained within and spanning the two chambers with one of its heads in contact with the pressurized gas and the other in contact with the infusate, and a throttle mechanism at the outlet of the infusion chamber for regulating the pressurized flow of infusate into and out of the infusion chamber by means of a two-way valve. A pressure gauge may be provided for measuring the pressure of the infusate.In one embodiment, two power infusion devices are coupled together with a common pressurized gas source and are also coupled together at their outlets for providing two different infusates to the proximal and distal ends of a catheter. A ball valve is utilized to purge the infusates of entrapped gas.

The electrosurgical tool can include a cutting blade to separate fused tissue. The electrosurgical tool can also include a jaw assembly configuration or an exterior cutting electrode to improve surgical access with the tool.

摘要: An electrosurgical tool can be used for tissue dissection. The tool can include several electrodes positioned on a jaw assembly. The electrodes can be selectively connected to a power source in a cutting arrangement or a coagulation arrangement. Switching from the cutting arrangement to the coagulation arrangement can be provided by opening and closing a handle to actuate the jaw assembly.

摘要: A tissue welding apparatus is adapted to fuse a first piece of tissue to a second piece of tissue which are disposed in a surface proximate relationship. An elongate shaft carries a first jaw, and a second opposing jaw moveable relative to the first jaw. At least one penetrating member is carried by the first jaw and moveable relative to the second jaw to create a channel through the first piece of material and the second piece of material. A source of heat is coupled to the penetrating member for denaturing the tissue defining the channel. This denatured tissue forms a column binding the first piece of tissue to the second piece of tissue. A chemical agent can be carried to the tissue with the penetrating member.

And a flexible sealing means forming a wall between the low and the intermediate pressure regions and supporting the valve element for limited movement between a closed and an open position.

摘要: The invention primarily is directed to a medical tubing adapted for insertion into a body tissue or cavity and method of manufacturing different variations of the tubing along a length of the tubing. The tubing comprises a plurality of individual, discrete, generally ring-shaped elements arranged in series and fused or bonded together forming a continuous tubular structure. The ring-shaped elements may include a combination of flexible and rigid ring-shaped elements assembled along different portions or sections of the tubular structure. In another aspect of the invention, the medical tubing may further comprise a secondary lumen and a pull wire to control the tubular structure. In another aspect of the invention, the ring-shaped elements may vary in diameter and/or composition in different portions or sections of the tubular structure.

摘要: A surgical digitizing apparatus and procedure will typically involve a pad having discrete segments which may be arranged in a specific order to accommodate a particular procedure. The individual segments can then be used to accomplish both diagnostic and therapeutic functions. For example, the segments can be interrogated to produce a map of body tissue and then electrosurgically energized to perform a therapeutic function in accordance with the map. Communication with the discrete segments will typically be accomplished through a microprocessor and associated switching circuits.
