摘要: An electrosurgical instrument which is capable of simultaneously ablating an area of tissue with microwave energy and performing resection with RF energy. The instrument comprises a structure for conveying both RF and microwave energy to an instrument tip that is configured to emit the microwave energy in a manner suitable for ablation (e.g. as a substantially spherical field) and to emit the RF energy in a more focussed manner to enable accurate and controllable resection to be performed. The energy conveying structure comprises a coaxial transmission line for conveying microwave energy. The coaxial transmission line has a hollow inner conductor that defines a passage that supports a second transmission line for conveying radiofrequency energy.

摘要: Devices, systems, and methods for resecting tissue are disclosed. In some embodiments, a tissue resecting device may comprise an elongated structure having a longitudinal axis, the elongated structure comprising an outer sleeve with a distal window configured to receive uterine polyp tissue and an inner sleeve configured to move between a proximal position and a distal position relative to the window. In some further embodiments, the device may also comprise an electrode element coupled to the inner sleeve. In some even further embodiments, the device may include an insulative layer covering at least a portion of the inner sleeve, wherein the tissue resecting device is configured to fail when used to resect tissue more fibrous than uterine polyp tissue.

摘要: An intraluminal microneurography probe has a probe body configured to be introduced into an artery near an organ of a body without preventing the flow of blood through the artery. An expandable sense electrode and an expandable stimulation electrode are fixed to the probe body at one end of each electrode such that movement of the other end toward the fixed end causes the sense electrode to expand from the probe body toward a wall of the artery. A ground electrode is configured to couple to the body, and a plurality of electrical connections are operable to electrically couple the electrodes to electrical circuitry. The sense electrode is operable to measure sympathetic nerve activity in response to excitation of the stimulation electrode. A radio frequency ablation element is located between the expandable sense electrode and expandable stimulation electrode, and is operable to ablate nerves proximate to the artery.

摘要: Surgical devices and methods are described herein that provide energy density control during tissue sealing. In general, these devices include a handle portion, an elongate shaft, and an end effector having a first jaw having a first tissue engaging surface and a second jaw having a second tissue engaging surface. The first tissue engaging surface can include an energy delivering electrode having a selected pattern of varying conductivity which may include a discrete region or a continuous pattern. The energy delivering electrode may be formed from a polymer substrate that includes a metal. The metal may be mixed into the substrate using an ion beam process. The amount of ions in the ion beam, the energy of the ion beam, or both may be varied to create the selected pattern of varying conductivity.

摘要: An electrosurgical instrument includes an instrument shaft, a suction tube extending along the shaft, and a tissue treatment electrode at the distal end of the shaft. The tissue treatment electrode includes at least a first part and a second part, the first and second parts each having an outer section including mating surfaces adapted to form a close-fitting barrier when the first and second parts are mated one with another, such as to inhibit the passage of gas across the barrier. At least one of the parts also includes an inner section with a longitudinal recess so as to form a suction lumen when the first and second parts are mated one with another. The suction lumen is in fluid communication with the suction tube, the tissue treatment electrode also including one or more apertures in communication with the suction lumen.

摘要: System and methods for channeling a path into bone include a trocar having a proximal end, distal end and a central channel disposed along a central axis of the trocar. The trocar includes a distal opening at or near the distal end of the trocar. The system includes a curved cannula sized to be received in the central channel, and having a curved distal end configured to be extended laterally outward from the distal opening in a curved path extending away from the trocar. The curved cannula has a central passageway having a diameter configured allow a probe to be delivered through the central passageway to a location beyond the curved path.

摘要: An electrode catheter device with indifferent electrode for direct current tissue therapies is disclosed. An example of the catheter device has a flexible tubing with at least one ablation electrode. The catheter device also may also be used with a sheath for introducing the flexible tubing inside a patient's body. An indifferent electrode on the sheath can provide a ground for a direct current (DC) pulse to deliver electrical energy and create an electrical field adjacent a tissue. Various other embodiments are also disclosed.
