A first sensor outputs a measurement of a first state variable (such as vibration) of a first locomotive component, such as a blower fan bearing set, and a second sensor outputs a measurement of a second state variable (such as rotational speed) of a second locomotive component, such as a blower fan shaft. The first state variable is indicative of the operation of the first component and is dependent on the second state variable. Data represents, for each of a number of different values of the second state variable, first, second, and third ranges of values of the first state variable which indicate, respectively, normal, worn, and failed operation of the first component. A mechanism, such as a digital computer, determines if the measurement of the first state variable is within the first, second, or third range of values of the first state variable for the measurement of the second state variable.

A self-shielded gradient coil assembly for an MR imaging system has inner and outer gradient coil windings disposed in coaxial relationship and defining a hollow annular space therebetween. Inner and outer helical cooling tubes are affixed to the outer and inner surfaces of the inner and outer gradient coil windings, respectively, by a thermally conductive epoxy, and a concrete filler material substantially fills the remaining hollow annular space. The concrete filler material may be poured into the hollow annular space to fill the space, or a pre-formed hollow concrete cylinder may be inserted coaxially into the space, defining remaining inner and outer annular volumes which are then filled with a thermally conductive epoxy bonding together the inner and outer gradient coil windings, the cooling tubes and the hollow concrete cylinder.

An electrical transformer includes a housing, a transformer core and winding subassembly located in the housing, and a cooling fan subassembly. The cooling fan subassembly includes a variable speed fan located outside the housing, a temperature sensor located near the housing, and a controller having an output port connected to the variable speed fan and an input port connected to the temperature sensor. The controller reduces the fan speed (and hence the fan noise) when a lower fan speed can maintain the desired temperature as sensed by the temperature sensor. Preferably, the electrical transformer further includes an active mount subassembly and/or (when the housing includes a tank containing transformer fluid) a mechanism for varying the dynamic pressure of such transformer fluid.

The system includes a plurality of sensors coupled to the wind turbine gearbox and a controller coupled to the plurality of sensors. The controller is configured to acquire vibration information from a vibration sensor, acquire a tachometer signal, convert the tachometer signal and the vibration information into a cycle domain signal, and perform an order analysis on the cycle domain signal, the order analysis providing information that identifies potential and actual damage within the wind turbine gearbox.
