Abstract: Provided is a method for stably and flexibly performing ranging between a plurality of devices. According to an embodiment, a method of operating a first device for performing ranging by using ultra-wide band (UWB) may include: transmitting a first ranging control (RC) frame to a second device; performing ranging with the second device for a number of ranging rounds determined based on the first RC frame; changing at least one ranging parameter based on a change request received from the second device; and transmitting a second RC frame including the changed at least one ranging parameter.

Abstract: A method includes obtaining channel information, range information, and angle of arrival (AoA) information based on wireless signals communicated between an electronic device and an external electronic device. The method also includes generating an initial prediction of a presence of the external electronic device relative to a field of view (FoV) of the electronic device based on the channel information and at least one of the range information or the AoA information. The initial prediction includes an indication of whether the external electronic device is within the FoV or outside the FoV of the electronic device. The method further includes performing, using a tracking filter, a smoothing operation on the range information and the AoA information. Additionally, the method includes determining that the external electronic device is within the FoV of the electronic device based on the AoA information, the smoothed AoA information, and the initial prediction.

Abstract: Provided are an electronic device that performs ranging by using an ultra wide-band (UWB) communication scheme and an operation method of the electronic device. The operation method of the first electronic device includes transmitting a first ranging control message (RCM) comprising interval information to a second electronic device, determining a first time to transmit a second RCM based on the interval information, determining a first RCM timing window (RTW) based on the first time, transmitting the second RCM to the second electronic device in the first RTW, and transmitting a third RCM at a second time in a second RTW, based on a failure to receive a response message corresponding to the second RCM within a specific time period in the first RTW, wherein the second time is a random time point in the second RTW.
