A method of providing a friend search service of a portable terminal is provided. The method includes transmitting, by a first portable terminal, a message for controlling a microphone of a second portable terminal to a contact server through a cellular network, outputting a sound including a first encryption key after transmitting the message, receiving a second encryption key from the second portable terminal through the cellular network, checking the second portable terminals existing in a sound-reaching area by comparing the first encryption key with the second encryption key, and displaying a friends list including the second portable terminals existing in the sound-reaching area.

A method and apparatus are provided for interoperably performing a service. The method includes searching, by a portable terminal, external device; acquiring a profile of the searched external device from the searched external device or from a profile server storing profile; determining an external device corresponding to the service characteristic as the service interoperation device, based on the acquired profile; recommending the service interoperation device, based on the determined external device; performing the service in interoperation with the recommended service interoperation device; and displaying a configuration image including the recommended service interoperation device performing the service.

The method includes displaying a page of an e-book on a touch screen of the mobile device, detecting a touch on the page, detecting a movement of the touch, beginning a page turning operation in response to the movement of the touch, and providing audio feedback based on a history corresponding to the page, according to the page turning operation.
