摘要： A power supply device for a luminous element and a method thereof are provided. The power supply device includes an output calculation unit for calculating a brightness level of the luminous element, a current command signal generation unit for generating a current command signal so that a current value being supplied to the luminous element is adjusted by stages, and a constant current source for adjusting by stages the current being supplied to the luminous element according to the current command signal. According to the power supply device, the ascending period and the descending period can be shortened, and light output characteristics can be improved by improving the transient characteristic through an adaptive adjustment of current in the ascending period and the descending period.

The luminescence driving apparatus includes: a driving circuit which is connected to a light-emitting device and drives the light-emitting device according to a control pulse having a fluctuating amplitude; a controller which, if an internal current of the light-emitting device is less than or equal to a threshold value, selects a position from among a plurality of different positions of the driving circuit based on the amplitude of the control pulse, senses a voltage at the selected position and determines whether a short-circuit has occurred between the light-emitting device and the driving circuit using a level of the sensed voltage; and a protector which if it is determined that the short-circuit has occurred, performs a protection operation with respect to the light-emitting device.

The display apparatus includes a signal processor which processes a video signal; a display which displays an image based on the video signal processed by the signal processor, a light source providing light for displaying the image; and a driving circuit which drives the light source on the basis of a dimming signal having an on-section and an off-section for dimming the light source. The driving circuit includes a protection circuit for performing a protection operation as a result of an abnormal electric current flowing in the light source during the off-section. The display apparatus is protected when a short circuit occurs between the light source and the driving circuit, thereby enhancing the stability and reliability of the apparatus.
