摘要: Marine engine exhaust includes pollutants such as CO2, NOx and SOx. An onboard system and method for the simultaneous removal of these pollutants includes obtaining seawater from the water on which the marine vessel travels, purifying the seawater to remove a portion of hard ions, concentrating the seawater to yield a concentrated brine solution, treating the concentrated brine solution with a chemical softener to yield a treated brine solution, acidifying the treated brine solution, and utilizing the acidified brine solution in a chlor-alkali process to yield sodium hydroxide. The sodium hydroxide can be used in an acid gas scrubber to remove CO2, NOx, and SOx from the marine engine exhaust gas.

摘要: A method for operating an internal combustion engine includes combusting a fuel and air mixture within a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, thereby forming an exhaust gas, passing the exhaust gas out of the combustion chamber, performing a startup procedure, the startup procedure including passing the exhaust gas from the combustion chamber to a storage unit, capturing criteria pollutants of the exhaust gas with the storage unit, passing the exhaust gas from the storage unit to an aftertreatment system, heating the aftertreatment system to an activation temperature with the exhaust gas from the storage unit, and subsequent to heating the aftertreatment system to the activation temperature, performing a secondary procedure, the secondary procedure including passing the exhaust gas from the combustion chamber to the aftertreatment system thereby forming a treated exhaust gas, and passing the treated exhaust gas to the storage unit.

Hydrogen gas generated by water splitting is used in conjunction with catalytic reduction units to catalytically reduce NOx in an engine exhaust gas.

摘要: The present application is directed to systems and methods for on-board fuel separation. The system includes: a source fuel tank for liquid fuel; a pump; and a membrane module. The membrane module includes a hydrophilic membrane, a retentate channel, and a permeate channel. The retentate and permeate channels are on opposing sides of the membrane. The membrane module receives fuel from the source fuel tank and separates the liquid fuel into a high octane fraction that collects in the retentate channel and a low octane fraction that diffuses through the membrane to the permeate channel. The system further includes a low octane fuel tank for receiving at least a portion of the low octane fraction, a high octane fuel tank for receiving at least a portion of the high octane fraction, and an engine configured to selectively receive at least a portion of the low and high octane fractions.

摘要: Systems and methods for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) in exhaust gases of a vehicle include delivering the exhaust gas to a cooled section of a rotary contactor, the rotary contactor including openings that extend from a first side of the rotary contactor to a second side of the rotary contactor. The CO2 of the exhaust gas is adsorbed with a sorbent of the cooled section of the rotary contactor, where the non-CO2 components of the exhaust gas pass through the openings. The cooled section of the rotary contactor is heated with a hot fluid of the vehicle to release the adsorbed CO2 and convert the cooled section of the rotary contactor to a heated section of the rotary contactor. The heated section of the rotary contactor is cooled to convert the heated section of the rotary contactor back to the cooled section of the rotary contactor.

摘要: A fuel separation system includes a fuel separator configured to receive a fuel stream and separate the fuel stream, based on a volatility of the fuel stream, into a vapor stream defined by a first auto-ignition characteristic value and a first liquid stream defined by a second auto-ignition characteristic value, the second auto-ignition characteristic value greater than the first auto-ignition characteristic value; and a control system communicably coupled to the fuel separator and operable to receive an input from an engine, the input including an engine operating condition, the control system configured to adjust an operating parameter of the fuel separator, based at least in part on the engine operating condition, to vary at least one of the first or second auto-ignition characteristic values.

摘要: A method for operating an oxycombustion engine system includes passing a nitrogen-depleted gas, a fuel, and a recycled exhaust gas into a combustion chamber, combusting a mixture of the nitrogen-depleted gas, the fuel, and the recycled exhaust gas, thereby producing an exhaust gas including carbon dioxide, detecting a pressure of the recycled exhaust gas passed to the combustion chamber, determining whether the detected pressure of the recycled exhaust gas is less than a configurable pressure threshold, and in response to determining that the detected pressure of the recycled exhaust gas is less than the configurable pressure threshold, increasing the pressure of the recycled exhaust gas passed to the combustion chamber.
