Abstract: In at least one implementation, technology disclosed herein provides a method including generating a plurality of shares of an encryption key such that a combination of shares having a cardinality above a threshold cardinality is sufficient to retrieve data encrypted with the encryption key, distributing the plurality of shares among a plurality of devices, the plurality of devices including one or more disc drive cartridges and one or more printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) configured to host one or more of the disc drive cartridges, receiving one or more of the plurality of shares from the plurality of devices, and in response to determining that cardinality of the received one or more of the plurality of shares is above the threshold cardinality, retrieving the data encrypted with the key.

Abstract: Methods of writing data to a DNA strand by inserting data-encoding oligos or symbols into a DNA backbone. One particular method of synthesizing a DNA strand encoding data includes cleaving a DNA backbone into multiple segments, and pasting a plurality of data-encoding oligo symbols between the multiple segments, with the terminal ends of the segments joining homologous terminal ends of the symbols, resulting in the DNA strand encoding data comprising alternating segments and symbols.

Abstract: A method for depositing a material from a solution to a surface is provided. The method includes depositing, through a deposition channel of a material depositor, the solution in a rich state to the surface, wherein the solution in the rich state includes an initial concentration of the material, onto a surface, applying a predefined electrical output, by the material depositor, through the deposited solution to adhere the material to the surface, and to yield the solution in a depleted state wherein the solution in the depleted state contains a different concentration of the material from the rich solution, and removing, through a removal channel in the material depositor, the deposited solution in the depleted state. The material depositor includes a hydrophilic region defined by a hydrophilic surface through which the material depositor conducts the depositing and the removing and a hydrophobic barrier circumscribing the hydrophilic region.

Abstract: The presently disclosed technology is directed to maximizing cleanliness, reliability, and space efficiency within a jukebox-style HDD, while minimizing overall cost of the HDD. In an effort to reduce the movement of a robotic arm assembly, cassettes within a jukebox-style HDD may be configured to be magnetically repositionable to replace some of the movement of the robotic arm assembly, without adding another significant source of potential mechanical failure within the HDD enclosure. Further, the overall number of moving parts is reduced, which may improve reliability of the HDD, as well as cleanliness within the HDD enclosure.

Abstract: The slow speed of conventional selective electroplating and L-PED (and further requirement of a series of masks in the case of selective electroplating) necessary to generate a metallic three-dimensional object makes conventional selective electroplating and L-PED not viable for mass manufacturing metallic three-dimensional objects. The presently disclosed technology generally utilizes electroplating and L-PED technologies with a screen electroplating process. The screen electroplating process disclosed herein is capable of achieving a faster throughput and a lower workpiece temperature than traditional 3D printing processes can provide, particularly traditional metal 3D printing processes. As a result, the presently disclosed screen electroplating process is able to achieve much faster results in printing a complex three-dimensional metallic structure using electroplating.

Abstract: A secure cartridge-based storage system includes a set of read/write control electronics on a control board adapted to removably couple with each of a plurality of storage cartridges. The read/write control electronics are adapted to transmit a public key to a target storage cartridge in response to a read/write command received from a host device. The target storage cartridge includes and encryption circuit that authenticates the transmitted public key against a stored public key, accesses a locally-stored encryption key responsive to successful authentication of the public key; and utilizes the locally-stored encryption key to encrypt or decrypt data of the read/write command that is in transit between the storage media and the control board.
