    摘要: An electromagnetic lock and status detection system and method therefor includes an armature, an electromagnet, and a status detection unit. The electromagnet is magnetically attracted to the armature into a mating relationship. A relatively high inductance is established in the electromagnet when the electromagnet is properly mated with the armature, and a relatively low inductance is established in the electromagnet when the electromagnet is not properly mated with armature. The status detection unit is coupled to the electromagnet to monitor the locking strength between the electromagnet and the armature. The unit monitors the locking strength by altering voltage level provided to the electromagnet and measuring the counter EMF induced in the electromagnet.

    摘要: An input interface system provides gesture-based user control of an application running on a computer by classification of user gestures in image signals. A given one of the image signals is processed to determine if it contains one of a number of designated user gestures, e.g., a point gesture, a reach gesture and a click gesture, each of the gestures being translatable to a particular control signal for controlling the application. If the image signal is determined to contain a point gesture, further processing is performed to determine position and orientation information for a pointing finger of a hand of the user and its corresponding shadow. The position and orientation information for the pointing finger and its shadow are then utilized to generate a three-dimensional pose estimate for the pointing figure in the point gesture. For example, the three-dimensional pose estimate may be in the form of a set of five parameters (X, Y, Z, &agr;, &egr;), where (X, Y, Z) denotes the position of a tip of the pointing finger in three-dimensional space, and (&agr;, &egr;) denotes the respective azimuth and elevation angles of an axis of the pointing finger. The point gesture can thus be used to provide user control in virtual flight simulators, graphical editors, video games and other applications.

    摘要: An input device for providing position and orientation information with six degrees of freedom for use in manipulating a real or virtual three-dimensional object. An illustrative embodiment includes a handle with a plate attached to an upper portion thereof. Associated with an upper planar surface of the plate is a set of LEDs or other light sources arranged in a designated pattern. A camera or other suitable type of detection device detects light from the light sources in order to determine the position, e.g., X, Y and Z positional parameters, and orientation, e.g., roll, pitch and yaw rotational parameters, of the input device. Control software running on a computer system may be used to detect and localize the light sources that are visible in a given image generated by the camera, to associate each of the light sources with a corresponding label, to determine the position and orientation information from the positions of the light sources in the image, and to communicate the position and orientation information to at least one application running on the computer system.
