Abstract:
A ring binder mechanism has an elongate housing and at least one ring for mounting loose leaf paper. The ring includes ring members supported by the housing for movement relative to each other between a closed position and an open position. At least one mounting structure extends outwardly from the housing and has first and second ends. The first end is adapted for attachment to the housing and the second end has an aperture therein. A retainer is affixed to the mounting structure. A fastener is adapted for connection with the retainer for securing the housing to a substrate.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for enhancing disease resistance in plants by modulating levels or activities of GmUBox1 polynucleotides and polypeptides are provided. Transformed plants, plant cells, tissues, and seed are also provided having enhanced disease resistance.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a ring binder mechanism comprising a housing having a top portion and an open bottom generally opposed to the top portion; hinge plates supported by the housing for pivoting motion relative to the housing; rings for holding loose-leaf pages, each ring including a first ring member and a second ring member, the first ring member being mounted on a first hinge plate and moveable with the pivoting motion of the first hinge plate relative to the second ring member between a closed position and an open position, in the closed position the two ring members forming a substantially continuous, closed loop for allowing loose-leaf pages retained by the rings to be moved along the rings from one ring member to the other, and in the open position the two ring members forming a discontinuous, open loop for adding or removing loose-leaf pages from the rings; and a travel bar disposed between the top portion of the housing and the hinge plates and having a plurality of projections, at least one of the projections having a structure to block the hinge plates from pivoting upward relative to the housing and at least other one of the projections having a structure to allow the hinge plates to pivot upward relative to the housing. The ring binder mechanism according to the present invention may be opened by pulling only a pair of particular ring members and closed by pushing any pair of ring members, thereby reducing the risk of paper's falling out thanks to unintentional opening of the mechanism.
Abstract:
An improved vibration suppressed bicycle structure includes a frame and a handle set that have ceramic piezoelectric elements located thereon to couple with passive and active control energy consuming mechanisms to convert the vibration energy of the bicycle body into electric energy, which is consumed in heat or gathered for active control use. The invention can absorb vibration energy of the bicycle to enhance structural performance, reduce vibration, and give bicycle riders more comfort over long distance rides and improved maneuverability.

Abstract:
An elevator system (10) includes an elevator hoistway (12) having a plurality of landings (14), an elevator car (16) configured to move within the elevator hoistway (12), and a position determining system (40) having a plurality of landing position indicators (48) and a plurality of dummy position indicators (50). At least one of the landing position indicators (48) is mounted proximate to each of the plurality of landings (14). Each dummy position indicator (50) is mounted within the elevator hoistway (12) at a predetermined vertical position between various of the plurality of landing position indicators (48). The position determining system (40) additionally includes a sensor (42) configured to determine when the elevator car is adjacent one of the plurality of landing position indicators (48) or one of the plurality of dummy position indicators (50). The plurality of landing position indicators (48) and the plurality of dummy position indicators (50) are positioned to form a sequence of unique patterns. The position determining system is more cost effective and timesaving than the absolute position reference systems.
Abstract:
An image color adjusting method and an electronic device thereof are provided. The image color adjusting method includes following steps: obtaining multiple groups of first pixel data of an image in a first color space, and performing a color space transforming process for the first pixel data to obtain multiple groups of second pixel data of the image in a CIELAB color space, wherein each of the second pixel data includes a luminance component L*, a first color component a* and a second color component b*; adjusting the first color component and the second color component of the second pixel data to obtain multiple groups of third pixel data, and performing a color space transforming process for the third pixel data to obtain multiple groups of fourth pixel data corresponding to the third pixel data in the first color space.
Abstract:
RNA interference (RNAi) agents and the use of the RNAi agents for treating hepatitis B infection in individuals, as well as pharmaceutical compositions containing the RNAi agents are provided. The RNAi agents, or constructs for expressing them are utilized to inhibit expression of at least one Hepatitis B virus (HBV) gene, wherein each agent comprises an effector sequence complementary to or substantially complementary to a predicted sequence transcribed from a target region. In some embodiments of the present invention, the agents have more than one effector sequence; wherein the multiple effectors may target the same region of an HBV gene, different (possibly overlapping) regions of the same gene and/or different HBV genes.
Abstract:
In one or more embodiments, the present invention provides iodine-functionalized phenylalanine-based poly(ester urea)s (PEUs) (and related methods for their synthesis and use) that are metal free, degradable, radiopaque and suitable for use in surgical implants and other medical devices used within a patient. In one or more embodiment of the present invention 4-Iodo-L-phenylalanine and L-phenylalanine are separately reacted with 1,6-hexanediol to produce two monomers, bis-4-I-L-phenylalanine-1,6-hexanediol-diester (1-IPHE-6 monomer) and bis-L-phenylalanine-1,6-hexanediol-diester (1-PHE-6 monomer). It has been found that by varying the feed ratio of the 1-IPHE-6 and 1-PHE-6 monomers, the copolymer composition may be modulated to predictably create phenylalanine-based PEUs having a wide variation in thermal, mechanical and radiopacity properties. As most medical device procedures require placement verification via fluoroscopic imaging, materials that possess inherent X-ray contrast are valuable for a number of applications.
