    摘要: A seal and a respiraoty mask having a seal adapted for confronting engagement with a surface of a user to form an interface therewith. The seal includes a first portion defined by a gel substance. In one embodiment, the seal includes a selectively formable substance adapted to be molded from a first pattern into a second pattern and to retain the second pattern responsive to being so molded. The seal and mask having the seal in this embodiment is tailored to patient by causing the formable portion of the seal to be placed in a malleable state, applying the seal to the patient while the formable portion is in the malleable state, and causing the formable portion to be placed in a fixed state to retain a shape generally conforming to the portion of the patient underlying the seal.

    摘要: An improved flexible respiratory mask facial seal, as well a respiratory mask incorporating such seal. The facial seal comprises an annular member including a peripheral sidewall bounded by an inner end and an outer end generally opposite the inner end. The inner end is adapted for attachment to the shell or body portion of a respiratory mask and the outer end defines a contoured sealing surface adapted for confronting sealing engagement with a user's face. The annular member is formed of a gel substance possessing resilience characteristics corresponding to those of human fat tissue. Preferably, the annular member is encapsulated in a thin, pliable, membranous covering to enhance the durability and washability of the facial seal. Because the facial seal simulates the resiliency of human fat tissue, the user experiences the sensation of a natural substance against his skin when the mask is donned.

    摘要: The present invention discloses a nasal mask assembly that includes a seal member defined from a unitary piece of elastomeric material. The seal member defines a nose receiving cavity and has a first end portion and a second end portion generally opposite the first end portion. A first opening in the first end portion allows at least a portion of a nose to enter the nose receiving cavity such that the nares of the patient communicate with the nose receiving cavity. The seal member includes a neck portion defined in the second end portion and a second opening defined in the neck portion in communication with the nose receiving cavity. A reinforcement area is provided on the side walls of the seal member. The reinforcement area comprises a saddle shaped contoured area on each side of the seal member. Each saddle shaped area has an upper and a lower protrusion portion for providing supporting contact with the face.

    摘要: A duck-bill valve element and a non-rebreathing valve (NRV) incorporating same. The duck-bill valve element is formed of flexible, resilient material and includes a peripheral portion continuously and sealingly attached to a housing of the NRV and a sealing portion contiguous with and extending radially inwardly of the peripheral portion, whereby the sealing portion is operable to releasably contact an internal valve seat of the valve housing. A hollow, wedge-shaped formation is contiguous with and projects from a first surface of the sealing portion. The wedge-shaped formation has a base defining an opening in the sealing portion and a distal end terminating in a slot. The valve element further includes integral structure for preventing inversion of the wedge-shaped formation under pressure applied to the wedge-shaped formation. The duck-bill valve element and the NRV may be employed in a breathing apparatus gas flow circuit between a source of respiratory gas and a patient interface component such as a respiratory mask.
