    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, which hardly causes display unevenness in joining parts in which mutually neighboring exposure regions are overlapped upon carrying out a photo-alignment treatment for forming a horizontal alignment film. The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes a step of forming a horizontal alignment film by carrying out a photo-alignment treatment of irradiating a photo-alignment film material applied to at least one substrate of a pair of substrates with polarized light, wherein the photo-alignment treatment is carried out by exposure to a plurality of regions of one substrate surface; two neighboring regions among the plurality of regions to be exposed include an overlapped part; an irradiation amount of the polarized light to the overlapped part is gradually lowered in one of the two neighboring regions toward the other of the two neighboring regions; and the overlapped part of the two neighboring regions has a width of 20 mm or wider.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device capable of suppressing display unevenness around a seal in the case of performing PS treatment on a horizontal alignment film formed from a photoactive material. The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes the steps of: forming a horizontal alignment film containing a photoactive material on at least one substrate of a pair of substrates; dropping a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal material and a monomer on one of the pair of substrates, the monomer being contained in an amount of 1.0% by weight or less in the whole liquid crystal composition; curing a sealing material applied to one substrate of the pair of substrates along an outer edge thereof by irradiating the sealing material with light whose wavelength is 40 nm or more longer than an absorption wavelength edge of the monomer; and forming a polymer layer that controls the alignment of liquid crystal molecules adjacent thereto on the horizontal alignment film by irradiating the liquid crystal composition sealed between the pair of substrates with light to polymerize the monomer.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device according to the present invention has a display area that includes a plurality of pixels (Px). The display area is made up of n kinds of domains (where n is an integer that is equal to or greater than two and equal to or smaller than four). The directors of the n kinds of domains define mutually different alignment directions. If the domain structure of each pixel (Px) is defined by the kinds of the domains that form the pixel (Px), the number k of the kinds of the domains that form the pixel (Px), and the arrangement of the domains in the pixel (Px), the display area includes a pixel, of which k is less than n and of which the domain structure is different from the domain structures of adjacent pixels.

    Abstract: A method of producing a liquid crystal cell includes: a thin-film forming step of forming, on a surface of electrode-attached substrates including a TFT substrate and a slot substrate, the TFT substrate including a first dielectric substrate, TFTs, and patch electrodes electrically connected to the TFTs, the slot substrate including a second dielectric substrate and a slot electrode supported on the second dielectric substrate and having slots, a thin film so as to cover the patch electrodes and/or the slot electrode; and a light irradiating step of irradiating the thin film with light including p-polarized light to provide the thin film with alignment-regulating capability of aligning liquid crystal molecules to thereby obtain an alignment film. The thin film includes a polymer including a photoreactive functional group and exhibiting the alignment-regulating capability of the thin film in a direction orthogonal to a polarization axis of the p-polarized light.
