    Abstract: Provided is a curved display device capable of preventing or reducing local light leakage while achieving a certain contrast ratio. The curved display device includes a liquid crystal panel in a normally black mode. The liquid crystal panel includes a first polarizer, a liquid crystal cell, and a second polarizer in a stated order from a viewing surface side. The liquid crystal cell includes a first substrate including a transparent substrate, a liquid crystal layer, and a second substrate including a transparent substrate in a stated order from the viewing surface side. At least one of the first substrate or the second substrate is provided with a third polarizer on a surface of the transparent substrate closer to the liquid crystal layer.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal cell in which antenna units are arranged includes a TFT substrate, a slot substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The TFT substrate includes a first dielectric substrate, TFTs supported by the first dielectric substrate and patch electrodes electrically connected to the TFTs, and a first alignment film covering a groove part between the adjacent patch electrodes. The slot substrate includes a second dielectric substrate, a slot electrode including slots and supported by the second dielectric substrate, and a second alignment film covering the slot electrode. The liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the TFT substrate and the slot substrate. The liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal material having a lower limit temperature of a nematic phase of the liquid crystal material of −32° C. or lower and an upper limit temperature of the nematic phase of the liquid crystal material of 110° C. or higher.

    Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal module being excellent in durability and manufacturing cost and exhibiting reduced variations in peak luminance that are caused depending on an azimuth angle during black display when the polar angle is large. The liquid crystal module includes: a liquid crystal panel including a first polarizer, a first substrate, a liquid crystal layer, an in-cell retardation layer (λ/4 plate of nx>ny=nz), a second substrate, an out-cell retardation layer (λ/4 plate of nx>ny≥nz), and a second polarizer, from a back side toward an observation side; and a backlight. The backlight includes a first prism sheet including a first ridge line, and a second prism sheet provided on a back side from the first prism sheet and including a second ridge line orthogonal to the first ridge line. The first ridge line is parallel to an azimuth at which the liquid crystal panel has a maximized transmittance in an oblique direction during black display.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a transmissive region and a reflective region, and includes a backlight unit and a liquid crystal display panel including a first substrate, a first alignment film, a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules having positive anisotropy of dielectric constant, a second alignment film, and a second substrate in the given order from closest to farthest from the backlight unit, the first substrate including a first electrode disposed in the transmissive region and the reflective region and a second electrode disposed in the transmissive region, the first substrate or the second substrate including a third electrode disposed in the reflective region, the first electrode including one or more first linear electrode portions in the transmissive region, with no voltage applied to the liquid crystal layer, the liquid crystal molecules in the transmissive region forming a given twist angle θ1, the liquid crystal molecules in the reflective region forming a given twist angle θ2, and an alignment azimuth of liquid crystal molecules adjacent to the first alignment film or the second alignment film in the reflective region being parallel to the alignment azimuth of liquid crystal molecules adjacent to the first alignment film in the transmissive region.

    Abstract: The liquid crystal display device includes, sequentially from a viewing surface side to a back surface side: a linearly polarizing plate and a circularly polarizing plate including a first λ/4 retardation layer; a thin-film transistor substrate including a pair of electrodes disposed in a pixel region and a metal line disposed outside the pixel region; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules aligned parallel to the thin-film transistor substrate, alignment of the liquid crystal molecules varying in response to an electric field generated by application of voltage to the pair of electrodes; a color filter substrate including a color filter layer; and a backlight, the thin-film transistor substrate including a second λ/4 retardation layer, the color filter substrate including a reflective layer disposed outside the pixel region and configured to reflect incident light from the backlight toward the back surface.
