This method includes the steps of measuring contraction properties of the sand, determining a molding parameter for molding a test piece of the sand having a known size based on the measurements of the contraction properties before the test piece is press-molded, press-molding the test piece by compacting a feed of the sand in accordance with the molding parameter, and measuring the properties of the sand by measuring properties of the test piece.

A method is disclosed for obtaining data on the strain-stress relation of a test piece of molding sand under a varying load to predict the degree of deformation of a green sand mold which is caused after the green sand mold is moved or filled with molten metal. The test piece of molding sand for a green sand mold is produced by compressing the molding sand. The varying load, and varying length of the test piece under the varying load, are measured at short intervals. Based on the measurements, the strain-stress relation of the test piece is calculated and then the data is stored. The stored data is used to predict the degree of deformation of a green sand mold produced from the same molding sand that is tested.

A method is disclosed to accurately and easily measure the amount of an active clayey component contained in molding greensand. A test piece is produced by feeding a predetermined amount of the molding greensand into a testing receptacle. The test piece is then tested to obtain its compressive strength. The amount of the active clayey component contained in it is determined from the measured compressive strength by using previously obtained data on the relation between the compressive strength and the active clayey component of molding greensand which is used on a mold-producing line or at a factory.

An image of the separating plane of each of mold pieces of a metallic mold is picked up by a infrared vidicon camera before the mold pieces are closed together. That image is then processed so as to obtain a temperature distribution pattern which is in turn compared with a target temperature distribution pattern previously stored in memory. With the result of the comparison, the mold piece is cooled or heated so as to have the target temperature pattern before the mold pieces are closed together.

The present invention provides pouring equipment of a tilting-type that can appropriately pour molten metal at a high speed corresponding to the speed of molding. It also provides a method of pouring the molten metal. The pouring equipment has a holding furnace supplying the molten metal by being tilted, a pouring ladle pouring the molten metal supplied from the holding furnace into molds that are intermittently transported, a device for measuring weight of the molten metal in the pouring ladle, and equipment for control that controls the tiltings of the holding furnace and the pouring ladle. The equipment for control has a device for storing results from measurements and devices for calculating the first and second flow rate. The equipment controls the tilting of the ladle so that the ladle pours the molten metal into the mold according to the flow pattern of the product.

Provided is an automatic pouring method whereby even a tilting automatic pouring device can pour at high speed, accommodating high-speed molding on a high-speed molding line. Said method includes: a process wherein a pouring tank, which can hold an amount of molten metal sufficient for multiple pours, is tilted forward, thereby pouring the molten metal from inside said tank into a casting mold; a process wherein the pouring tank is tilted backward, thereby halting the aforementioned pouring into the casting mold; and a process wherein a set of casting molds, including the casting mold for which the aforementioned pouring had completed, are moved at intervals. During the period from the beginning of the process in which molten metal is poured into the casting mold to the end of the process in which the set of casting molds is moved at intervals, whenever the weight of molten metal in the pouring tank is less than a prescribed weight, molten metal is continually supplied to the pouring tank by tilting a holding furnace forward.
