摘要： The outer surface of a panel effective section of a vacuum envelope is substantially flattened. A phosphor screen is formed on the inner surface of the effective section and includes stripe-shaped phosphor layers and light absorption layers arranged in parallel. The panel effective section is formed such that a corner portion is 8 mm to 15 mm thicker than the central portion and the transmittance of the central portion is set at 40% to 60%. The phosphor screen is formed such that the ratio of the width of a light absorption layer to the pitch of phosphor layers in the central portion of the panel effective section is larger than or equal to that in the peripheral portion thereof. A shadow mask is opposed to the phosphor screen and has a mask body in which a number of electron beam passage apertures are formed. The pitch of apertures formed in the peripheral portion of the mask body is 1.3 to 1.4 times as large as that of apertures formed in the central portion thereof.

In this color cathode ray tube, the inner surface of the effective portion of the panel is a curved surface having a substantially infinite curvature radius RXp1 in the major-axis direction on the major axis thereof near the center, a predetermined curvature radius RXp2 in the major-axis direction near peripheral portions on the major axis, and another predetermined curvature radius in the minor-axis direction on the minor axis thereof. This color cathode ray tube, with its panel having the substantially flat outer surface, enjoys improved visibility and higher strength for the maintenance of the curved surface of the shadow mask.

摘要： A color cathode ray tube has a shadow mask. The shadow mask is composed of an almost rectangular mask body and an almost rectangular mask frame. The mask body has an effective surface facing a fluorescent screen, a non-aperture section surrounding the effective surface, and a bent skirt section formed on the periphery of the non-aperture section. The mask frame has a sidewall section provided on the skirt section of the mask body. In the shadow mask of such a configuration, a step section having a step in the direction perpendicular to the skirt section of the mask body is formed. With this configuration, the strength with which the curved surface of the effective surface of the shadow mask is enhanced, which prevents the color purity from deteriorating due to deformation and facilitates the formation of the shadow mask.

摘要： A color-cathode ray tube having a shadow mask with improved aperture arrays. The aperture arrays are spaced at appropriate intervals and are curved to suppress local doming of the effective part of the shadow mask and to prevent electron-beam mislanding from occurring on a phosphor screen. The distance between any two adjacent apertures is expressed as: PH(N)=A+BN.sup.2 +CN.sup.4, where PH(N) is the distance between the (N-1)th and Nth arrays and A, B, and C are fourth-degree functions of a Y-coordinate. The apertures along a long side of the effective part of the shadow mask in a section extending for one-fourth of a width of the effective part of the shadow mask from a short side of the effective part of the shadow mask are inclined in an opposite direction to the apertures within the section and located one-third of a height of the effective part of the shadow mask from the long side.

摘要： In a color cathode ray tube in which the external surface of an effective portion of a panel has a flat surface or a slight curvature, the shadow mask is set such that the layout distance between electron beam through hole array near the long side of an effective surface of the shadow mask is larger in the vicinity of the short axis than the layout distance at the center of the effective surface. Further, the layout distance becomes gradually smaller in direction away from the short axis, and thereafter, the layout distance changes to an increase. In the vicinity of the short side of the effective surface, the layout distance becomes equal to or larger than the layout distance near the short axis. Therefore, the curvature of the shadow mask and the electron beam through hole array are set in proper condition, and mislanding of beam landing due to deformation or oscillation of the shadow mask can be reduced. At the same time, howling of the phosphor screen can be minimized.

Each of the longer side walls includes a pressing portion located near the shorter axis so as to protrude toward the mask frame and pressing the mask frame.
