In the present invention, the process of forming the dielectric layer is carried out by laminating a dielectric thin film sheet on a substrate. Alternatively, it is carried out by sealing together a dielectric thin film sheet and the rear-side substrate whilst leaving a discharge gap therebetween. In particular, by using a dielectric thin film sheet to constitute the dielectric layer formed onto the display-side substrate, which must be transparent, the conventional processes of printing and anneling become unnecessary. For this dielectric thin film sheet, a micro-sheet comprising borosilicate glass or soda-lime glass as a principal component is used. This micro-sheet may have a thickness of 5 &mgr;m or less, and it is suitable as a dielectric layer for a plasma display panel.

This invention provides a plasma display panel in which a blue fluorescent material layer is provided isolatedly from a green fluorescent material layer to prevent the green fluorescent material from being deteriorated. The plasma display panel includes fluorescent material layers of a plurality of colors provided between a pair of substrates. The fluorescent material layers are partitioned on a color to color basis with a barrier rib having predetermined width and height. Discharge is generated in the area partitioned by the barrier rib to perform display. At least one of the width and the height in the barrier rib for partitioning the blue fluorescent material layer from the green fluorescent material layer adjacent to the blue fluorescent material layer, is larger than that in the other barrier ribs.

In a liquid crystal display device, one or a plurality of partition walls adhering to the two substrates are provided in a region between the adhesive member for sealing the peripheral portions of the two substrates and a display region located inside the adhesive member so as to reduce stress applied to the liquid crystal substance. Even when stress is applied to the liquid crystal substance in the peripheral portion of the substrate, the stress is reduced by the partition wall and is not transmitted to the display region on the opposite side of the partition wall. Therefore, even when a crack occurs in the peripheral portion of the substrate due to the stress, the propagation of the crack is stopped by the partition wall, and the crack does not enter the display region.
