A composition for cross linking an ethylene polymer comprises an organic peroxide as a cross linking agent and a compound represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R stands for a hydrogen atom or one member selected from the class consisting of alkyl groups of 1 to 9 carbon atoms and n is an integer of 2 or 3.
