Disclosed is a highly flame-retardant fiber of excellent color-fastness which is made from the mixture composition of 30 to 60 parts of an amino resin composed of a condensation product of formaldehyde with melamine and other amino compounds selected from, urea, dicyandiamide and benzoguanamine, and 70 to 40 parts of polyvinyl alcohol. The incorporation of 0.1 to 4.0% by weight of phosphorus by the addition of a reactive organic phosphorous compound to the spinning dope or to the wet filaments before drawing causes noticeable enhancement of the flame-retardance. Curing and crosslinking may be carried out during the yarn-making process of spinning, drawing and heat-setting or after the yarn-making process by treatment in an acidic formaldehyde environment.

A membrane for microfiltration, ultrafiltration or dialysis comprises a methyl methacrylate copolymer containing about 0.5 to 10 mol % of a monomer having sulfonate groups, and a methyl methacrylate copolymer containing about 0.5 to 10 mol % of a monomer having quaternary nitrogen-containing groups. It is manufactured by mixing those copolymers, dissolving the mixture in a solvent such as dimethylsulfoxide or dimethylformamide, and forming a membrane from a solution of the copolymers by casting or spinning. The membrane is particularly suitable for use in the purification of blood, and its most preferable form is hollow fibers. A method of preparing hollow fibers comprises extruding the copolymer solution through a spinneret having an annular orifice defined by a thin central tube while a liquid or gas is being injected into the central tube, and coagulating the extrusion product.

A back-end vector parallel computer system suitable for supercomputing in engineering and science, comprising N vector processor units and a cubic array of N.sup.3 memory banks which are shared by N boards and are accessed through row and column common busses wired on all boards in the lattice form from vector processors through anyone of four routing ways in both 2- and 3- dimensional problems, and practicing computation of data accessed through any routing way in parallel for vectors on any section of data array with the selected direction, each vector data being processed by each corresponding vector processor, such parallel computations being usually repeated to the direction successively, and further changing alternatingly the direction of access if necessary for computation to be continued.

The present invention relates to a hollow fiber type ultrafiltration membrane comprising a material of polymethyl methacrylate series in which no crosslinking is formed substantially and a process for its preparation. By employing adequate conditions, this material which is easy to handle makes it possible to achieve a steady manufacturing process and a constant quality of product. The obtained membrane is excellent in selective permeability and bio-compatibility, and expected to show its effect mainly in medical applications such as separation of plasma.
