摘要: Improved integrated processes for the production of alkyl aromatic compounds are disclosed wherein aromatic compounds which may be treated for removal of deleterious substances are reacted with olefin compounds, which may also be treated for contaminant removal, in the presence of acidic zeolite catalyst(s) to produce the desired alkyl aromatic compound(s). The aromatic and preferably also the olefin feeds are treated substantially to remove contaminants, particularly the nitrogen compounds contained therein, before they are brought together for reaction in the presence of the zeolite catalyst(s). In accordance with the present invention, it has been found that feed pretreatment for removal of nitrogen compounds significantly improves the run length and life of the acidic zeolite catalyst(s). The feed pretreatment of this invention may include the steps of distillation, extraction, and/or adsorption by solid adsorbent, which may be regenerated in accordance with further embodiments of this invention.

摘要: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for using an ultraviolet laser system to decompose selected chemical substances in water. More particularly, this invention provides methods and apparatus whereby various environmental pollutants in water are rapidly decomposed to very low concentrations, consistent with environmental discharge regulations, use requirements, and/or applicable health standards, by means of exposure to ultraviolet laser irradiation (10, 20), either with or without one or more catalysts and/or other chemical additives to facilitate or enhance the decomposition process.

摘要: An environmentally acceptable method for cleaning the interior of vessels comprises contacting the interior of a vessel with a solvent for the contaminant contained therein to produce a contaminated solvent, collecting the contaminated solvent from the vessel, separating essentially all of the contaminant from the contaminated solvent to recover essentially all of the solvent essentially free of the contaminant and produce a contaminant composition which is incineratable or can be made incineratable by blending with a combustible composition, such as fuel oil.The contaminant may be separated from the contaminated solvent by distillation; in which case the overhead product may be washed with sulfuric acid and then neutralized with a base.
