A method for creating and assigning TMGI, comprising steps of: sending a message to a SGSN when an UE joining a MBMS service group; if a MBMS TMGI has been added to SGSN records, the SGSN directly replying to the UE with the TMGI corresponding to a service; if there is no record for this service in the SGSN, the SGSN sending a message to the GGSN, and if the TMGI corresponding to this service is created by the GGSN, the GGSN sending it to the SGSN; if there is no record in the GGSN and a TMGI is created by the GGSN, the GGSN creates a TMGI for the MBMS service; e. the SGSN sending the TMGI received from the GGSN to the RNC. f. The UE receiving signal from the RNC by using the TMGI.

This invention provides a paging method for Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service in mobile communication system paging process and radio resource setup process are merged in this method to try to reduce uplink responses. This invention extends existing PCH IubFP frame structure by adding MBMS Indication bit(MI) to PCH IubFP frame. The PCH IubFP frame includes Paging Indication (PI) and Paging Message. Paging message carries MBMS service information. MBMS Service Identity or MBMS Paging Indicator is added to the reserved 12 bits in Paging Indicator Channel (PICH) frame structure. Radio Network Controller (RNC) transfers Paging Indicator Message and paging message to Base Station (Node B) so as to send over the air-interface.

A method and terminal apparatus for transmitting a status report comprising a received status of packet data in a mobile communication system are provided, in which whether transmission of an implicit Negative Acknowledge (NACK) signal is required for requesting retransmission of at least one non-received data packet whose sequence number is unidentified is determined, if transmission of the implicit NACK signal is required, the implicit NACK signal including a sequence number of the last packet is generated among successfully received data packets, and a status report including the implicit NACK signal is transmitted to the transmitter, and if transmission of the implicit NACK signal is not required, a status report is transmitted to the transmitter including at least one of an ACK signal comprising a sequence number of a successfully received data packet and an explicit NACK signal comprising a sequence number of a non-received data packet whose sequence number is identified.

A retransmission method and apparatus performed in a transmitter of a mobile communication system supporting a Hybrid Automatic Retransmission reQuest (HARQ) operation and an Automatic Retransmission request (ARQ) operation for retransmission of a packet are provided. At least one ARQ entity generates at least one ARQ packet, and an HARQ entity transmits an HARQ packet including the at least one ARQ packet to a receiver, and transmits a local NACK signal indicating transmission fail of the ARQ packet to a corresponding ARQ entity, if the HARQ packet fails in transmission.

A method and apparatus performs handover from an OFDM-based E-UMTS system to a CDMA-based UMTS system. A UE in communication with a PDN via the E-UMTS system, measures signal strength of the UMTS system, and sends a measurement report message indicating the measured signal strength to the E-UMTS system. A radio access network (E-RAN) of the E-UMTS system, determines whether to perform handover from the E-UMTS system to the UMTS system based on the measured signal strength. If the handover is to be performed, a core network (E-CN) of the E-UMTS system generates a PDP context and an MM context for the UE in response to a handover request from the E-RAN. The E-CN sets up a data tunnel for the UE to a GGSN of the UMTS system using the PDP/MM context. After setting up the data tunnel, the E-CN sends to the UE a handover command message including information on a radio bearer (RB) to be used by the UE to access the UMTS system. The UE accesses the UMTS system using the RB information. After accessing the UMTS system, the UE forwards user data for the UE via a data transmission path composed of the E-CN, the data tunnel, a SGSN, and a RAN of the UMTS system, between the PDN and the UE.

A method for controlling a rate of a voice service in a mobile communication system supporting the voice service via a packet network. The method includes the steps of receiving a control message at a terminal from a radio network controller (RNC); if the control message indicates control of a downlink rate, determining a downlink rate according to the control message; setting a Change Mode Request (CMR) field of an uplink Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) packet according to the downlink rate, and transmitting the uplink VoIP packet from the terminal to the RNC; if the received control message indicates control of an uplink rate, determining an uplink rate according to the control message; and generating an uplink VoIP packet including uplink voice data generated according to the determined uplink rate and frame type (FT) information indicating the determined uplink rate, and transmitting the uplink VoIP packet from the terminal to the RNC.

A control message transmitting/receiving method in an MBMS-supporting mobile communication system. In the present invention, an RNC periodically transmits control messages related to MBMS RB setup to UEs. Thus, although a UE initially fails to receive an intended MBMS service, it can set up an MBMS RB by receiving a related retransmitted control message. Also, the RNC periodically provides information about ongoing MBMS services on a cell basis so that a UE can decide whether its requested MBMS service is in progress and request information required to set up an MBMS RB for the MBMS service to the RNC by individual signaling.

Disclosed is a method for resuming header decompression by receiving multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) packet data having compressed headers in a mobile communication system providing the MBMS. The method includes the steps of detecting a moving of user equipment (UE) receiving the MBMS into a new cell from an old cell, copying and storing old header decompression context information used in the old cell, initializing a dynamic part to decompress headers of packet data for the MBMS and waiting for an IR-DYN packet until the IR-DYN packet has been received in the UE, in order to update the old header decompression information, creating a new header decompression context through updating the old header decompression information by using the IR-DYN packet when the IR-DYN packet has been received in the UE, and decompressing the headers of the packet data for the MBMS transmitted from the new cell by using the new header decompression context.
