An internal combustion piston engine has one or more cylinders each having a main combustion chamber and an auxiliary combustion chamber connected by a torch nozzle. Exhaust gases from the main chamber are used to heat the intake mixture for the auxiliary combustion chamber. Contiguous thin wall pipes, one carrying hot exhaust gases and one carrying a rich mixture for the auxiliary chamber, are both enclosed within a thick wall outer housing. A riser for the auxiliary intake pipe is also enclosed within said housing. The thin wall exhaust pipes join an exhaust chamber secured to the thick wall housing at a central location to minimize deformations caused by thermal expansion.

A transmission device in which a centrifugal starting clutch is in a casing mounted on a crank shaft of an engine. A multiple plate type speed change clutch is mounted on a speed change input shaft. The starting clutch has an output member operatively connected to its input member through a reduction gear train. The speed change clutch is interposed between the starting clutch and the reduction gear train. The starting clutch is immersed into lubricating oil in the casing, whereas the speed change clutch is totally positioned above the surface of lubricating oil.

A centrifugal type oil filter for the engine, which is simple in construction, comprising a crank shaft of the engine, a clutch having a driving plate mounted on the crank shaft so that it may be rotated with the crank shaft, and oil passage axially formed within the crank shaft, and a bowl-shaped filter cap secured to one side of the driving plate to interiorly define, in cooperation with the side of the driving plate, a centrifugal separating chamber disposed in the midst of the oil passage. The clutch is in the form of a centrifugal clutch comprising clutch shoes radially expandably connected to the driving plate by oscillating links and a clutch drum disposed radially outwardly of the clutch shoes and adapted to be frictionally connected to the clutch shoes when the latter are expanded under centrifugal force. A resilient member is interposed between the clutch shoes and the filter cap to restrain the lateral oscillation of the clutch shoes.

There is disclosed a starting decompression device for a four-cycle engine for forcedly open an exhaust valve to decompress a combustion chamber. The starting decompression device includes an interlocking means operatively connected to the exhaust valve, a decompression cam member opposed to the interlocking means, and a return spring for urging the cam member towards an inoperative position at which the exhaust valve is closed. In the device, the cam member is automatically returned, at a suitable time during cranking, to close the exhaust valve, thereby mitigating the initial load of cranking and positively starting the engine.
