    摘要: A method and apparatus for navigating a tool string down a subsurface borehole to its intended location while simultaneously measuring or sensing the borehole environment, electrically, acoustically, mechanically, or by nuclear means, for a characteristic parameter. The hole-finder apparatus incorporating a locally flexible body adapted for attachment to the tool string. As the tool string is navigated through the borehole, the flexible body provides extreme local flexibility to lessen the likelihood of jamming the tool string while tripping down the borehole by providing a lateral force at the obstruction. The hole-finder apparatus further including a sensor or probe measuring means attached to or within the tip of the flexible body for measuring the characteristic parameter. With the sensor or measurement means disposed at the tip of the apparatus, the sense point is moved to the bottom of the tool string to provide borehole characteristic measurements having little effect on, or momentary influence from, the formation without impeding the apparatus' hole-finding capability. In addition, data representative of the borehole or formation characteristic parameter is communicated from the apparatus to a distant point by wiring.

    摘要: Improved receiver antennas are disclosed for long offset tensor induction army logging tools. The disclosed antennas include a bobbin which accommodates a ferromagnetic core. The outer surface of the bobbin is wrapped around a binding so that winding is thicker or includes more turns towards a center of the bobbin and is thinner or includes less turns towards the outer ends of the bobbin. The result is that the primary winding with a curved or parabolic profile that enhances the effective magnetic permeability and magnetic moment of the antenna. A secondary winding may also be utilized for flux feedback compensation. The elimination of winding turns towards the ends of the magnetic coil result in reduced DC resistance and the reduction in parasitic capacitance of the antennas. The disclosed antennas may be used in x-y-z receiver arrays.

The coil has an inner diameter that is large enough to receive a section of the insulated wire. The apparatus further includes an electronic circuit connected to the first and second ends to deliver power to the resistive heater element such that the coil uniformly distributes heat about the section of the insulated wire to thermally decompose insulation on the section of insulated wire.

These four primary eddy currents are detected by the array induction tool receiver, the received signals being used to determine the resistivity and conductivity of the borehole formation.

    摘要: A method and apparatus is disclosed for electrically measuring the inside diameter of a metallic pipe, such as oil or gas well casing. The transimpedance of two coaxial coils within the pipe is determined and then resolved into its inphase and quadrature components. The difference of the magnitudes of the two components is equal to an expansion equation which is a function of the inside diameter of the pipe and a factor proportional to the ratio of the permeability to the conductivity of the pipe. The inphase component of the impedance is equal to a second expansion equation which is a function of the inside diameter of the pipe and the factor proportional to the ratio of the permeability to the conductivity of the pipe. The two equations are solved simultaneously to generate signals for the pipe's inside diameter and the ratio of permeability to conductivity.
