摘要: An adjunctive accessory article (25) for controlled release of at least a single physiologically active agent form an indwelling medical device so equipped is provided. The article is configurable as a tubular element upon a portion of the indwelling medical device, with barriers or facilitating coverings overlaying the carrier in furtherance of the controlled release of the active agent. To the extent that requires, affixation means for stable placement upon an indwelling device are further contemplated. Finally, a variety of application systems are described in connection to deployment of sleeve articles upon a portion of an indwelling device.

摘要: A method and system for the creation or modification of the wear surface of orthopedic joints, involving the preparation and use of one or more partially or fully preformed components adapted for insertion and placement into the body and at the joint site. The system includes a method and related components and/or devices in the form of a kit that can be used to provide or perform some or all of the steps of: a) preparing a joint to receive an implant, b) determining an appropriate implant size for a particular joint, c) determining an appropriate implant thickness, d) inserting the implant into the joint, and/or e) securing the implant within the joint to a desired extent. One or more of the various components and devices, including optionally one or more implants themselves, can be provided or packaged separately or in varying desired combinations and subcombinations to provide a kit of this invention. In turn, a kit can include, or be used in combination with, one or more corresponding devices or components that will already exist in the surgical suite, and that can optionally be sterilized for re-use in subsequent procedures. The selection and use of components, devices and/or implants within a kit of this invention is facilitated by the coordination of various features in the manner described, including appearance, size and configuration.

摘要: A temporary stent comprises a coil of tubular thermoplastic material and a heating element inside the tubular material, or a film with a metal film resistive heating element coated thereon. A method of temporarily supporting the wall of a vessel comprises the steps of inserting a thermoplastic body having a first outer dimension less than the inside dimension of the vessel into the vessel to the desired support position; heating the thermoplastic above its softening transition temperature and expanding it to a second outer dimension larger than its first outer dimension; cooling the thermoplastic body to below its softening transition temperature while at its second outer dimension; allowing the cooled thermoplastic body to temporarily support the vessel; heating the thermoplastic above its softening transition temperature to soften the thermoplastic; and removing the softened thermoplastic body from the vessel.
