    摘要: Molding apparatus and method for molding of features integral with a base, such as in the production of fastener elements for hook-and-loop type touch fasteners, e.g. by the Fischer process, employs a mold roll (1) formed of rings (9) that have coolant passages (22) formed within the ring components (9) themselves for substantially direct contact with cooling liquid. Axial tie rods (16) compress the mold rings (9) together, contributing to the sealing of the coolant passages and the stiffness of the mold roll. Mold cavities (2), including cavities (2) used for injection molding, and cooling passages (22) formed in either mold rings (9) or injection mold plates by photo-chemical etching, laser machining and other techniques are disclosed. Various machines and methods taking unique advantage of these features are disclosed, including ring alignment methods for improved base thickness control and for forming products with very thin bases.

    摘要: Improvements are disclosed for an apparatus for continuously molding small fastener elements integral with a base web from a flowable resin. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical mold roll rotatable about an axis and defining small fastener element-shaped mold cavities in the surface thereof, and pressure-applying means to apply operating pressure to force the resin into the cavities at a pressure zone. The pressure-applying means and mold roll define a mold gap therebetween for forming the base web. The advantageous use of relatively long mold rolls, to produce a correspondingly wide web, and the use of higher molding pressures, e.g. to form very small fastener elements, is enabled by various improvements, including means to maintain the mold gap at a desired thickness profile across the length of the molding region of the mold roll under operating pressure. In some cases the pressure-applying means includes a pressure roll, in other cases it includes a resin nozzle assembly or pressure head. In some other cases it includes a belt. Various control schemes are also disclosed, as are means to provide cooling. In some particularly useful embodiments, at least one of the rolls of the apparatus has a resiliently deformable surface. Methods of molding fastener elements directly on a sheet material, such as sandpaper, are also disclosed, as well as methods for laminating.

    摘要: A method of forming a mold having cavities for molding loop-engageable, hook-shaped fastener elements, includes: supporting a first plate having an outer surface that defines a plane; manipulating a material-cutting beam of a laser along a predetermined curved profile to cut a cavity into the outer surface of the first plate, the predetermined curved profile being generally hook-shaped, the cavity defined by a wall extending into the first plate from the outer surface; in a series of subsequent actions, repeatedly indexing the first plate relative to the laser to direct the material-cutting beam at further positions on the first plate and repeating the step of manipulating the material-cutting beam of the laser relative to the first plate to form a series of cavities, each having a hook-shaped profile; and positioning a second plate adjacent the outer surface of the first plate, the second plate providing a side wall surface for each of the cavities of the first plate, the first plate and the second plate in combination forming a mold having cavities for molding loop-engageable, hook-shaped fastener elements. Various methods for aligning such mold plates in a fastener element molding apparatus are also provided. A hook product includes a stem portion integrally molded with and extending from a sheet-form base to a distal end, the stem portion having a planar side; and a crook portion extending from the distal end of the stem portion to overhang the sheet-form base in an overhang direction, the crook portion having a flat planar side co-planar with the planar side of the stem, and an upper surface extending upward from an upper extent of the planar side of the crook portion to an apex.

    摘要: A fastener member (10) useful for separable engagement with surface fibers of a low-loft, non-woven fabric, or the like, has a base web (12) and a multitude of fastener elements (14) formed with and extending from the base web (12). The fastener elements have a profile that comprises an elongated stem portion (22) adjacent the base web (12) and including at an acute angle to the base. A crook portion (24) is formed on the end of the stem and is directed oppositely to the direction of inclination of the stem, being exposed for engaging a mating fastening member (32). The acute angle of the stem of the elements (14) enables them to flex toward the base. Offset pair of such elements (14) can operatively move in a pincer-type motion to engage fibers (32) and to retain engaged fibers. Other element configurations are disclosed. The fastener member has particular application for fastening of disposable products such as garments and diapers.
