摘要: An electropolishing device for polishing a cylindrical medical device such as a stent includes anodes in the form of rollers arranged to contact an exterior surface of the device. A drive mechanism rotates the anodes periodically during the electropolishing process to change a contact point between the anodes and the medical device. A tilting mechanism can also be used for periodically tilting the anodes during the electropolishing process to allow bubbles to escape from one end of the stent.

摘要: A bifurcation stent includes a first end which is deformable or crushable at a lower force than a second end. The crushable first end and more rigid second end of the bifurcation stent allow one end of the stent to remain expanded in tissue supporting configuration in a side branch of a vessel bifurcation while the other end is easily crushed against the side wall of the main vessel into which it extends. A method of supporting a bifurcated body lumen with the bifurcation stent involves delivering the bifurcation stent in an unexpanded configuration to a bifurcation in a body lumen, positioning the bifurcation stent with the distal portion substantially within a side branch vessel of the bifurcation and the proximal crushable portion substantially within the main vessel, expanding the bifurcation stent, and expanding a main vessel stent along side the bifurcation stent and thereby crushing at least a portion of the crushable proximal portion of the bifurcation stent against the main vessel wall.

摘要: The beneficial agent is applied into the holes in a medical device in a dry particulate form and is adhered in the hole in a manner that allows release of the drug in a controlled manner. The drug material would be formed into particles and placed in the holes. The solvent would be added to partially liquefy and adhere the drug into the holes. After application of the solvent, the particles are adhered together in a substantially uniform drug containing matrix. The particles may include drug alone or drug in combination with other materials including a matrix.

摘要: A system for loading a beneficial agent into holes in a medical device includes a punch system for punching plugs of beneficial agent from a thin sheet into the holes in the medical device. The loading of a beneficial agent in the form of a thin film allows the formation of multilayered structures within the holes to control release kinetics and prevent any meniscus which occurs when a beneficial agent is deposited as a liquid in the holes and dried. The punch type loading system also can provide the ability to deliver large and potentially sensitive molecules including proteins, enzymes, antibodies, antisense, ribozymes, gene/vector constructs, and cells including endothelial cells.
